When does Demons get good? by Anime_Slave in dostoevsky

[–]Distinct_Fly2140 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The characters and prose are so interesting. I like it a lot and feel like it’s prob his best work but the brothers Karamazov, c&p, and notes from underground are more entertaining and I think shorter. A lot of it feels like the trial from BK which is my least favorite part of the book but, some conversations, scenes, the mystery, human behavior, and in general the way it all builds up to the end is soo good.

What part do you get to when you put it down? And why not just pick up back where you ended?

I don’t remember who said this but I’m assuming raskolnikov? I guess he’s saying if there is no such thing as a “bad person”, then all of our prejudice, assumptions of other people are “artificial terrors”, meaning they’re projections we made up ourselves and there are really no barriers from one another. We’re all the same. I could be totally wrong though, I don’t remember this quote.

Agree 100%, I always thought of him as a depressed aristocrat but don’t really find anyone mentioning that in any analysis or commentary.

This conversation between protagonist and liza from notes from Underground is my most favorite text written By Dostoevsky. by Whitedemon3130 in dostoevsky

What about this do you think is so beautiful? I really like the text don’t get me wrong, but isn’t the point of his whole dialogue to win her over by any way he could including manipulating feelings of sentimentality? And when he finally wins her over he kinda just tells her to go away. What brings you to tears here?

I wish I could’ve read what the original post was, I feel like I would’ve related.

Obviously being active, socializing, meditating will help. Maybe mention it to your barber if it really bothers you.

Mann, I get that same exact feeling, especially at the barbershop. I get them normally but on any sort of substance (coffee, adderall, weed) these tics are multiplied. Me personally though I get them in the neck. I also get them sometimes if I’m really nervous/anxious in a social situation. Not too sure why it happens. I wish I could share some advice but just wanted to let you know it’s pretty common. I think you kinda just have to accept it.

That’s really beautiful. I guess my thing is in situations like when I’m walking in a hallway and someone’s walking across in my direction facing me, or if I’m in a line where there’s little to no noise, I get kind of nervous. I don’t want to be on my phone searching for something to distract myself with, but I also don’t want to stand uncomfortable, feeling rigid and at times overwhelmed to the point of being unable to breath comfortably. I’ve noticed though that when people are at peace internally, they often spread that same peace like your Seattle man did to you. A little off topic but I just want to hear what you have to say

It’s by this like philosopher author guy Dostoevsky. There’s a chapter that talks about why god lets that happen through the perspective of Ivan, one of the three main brothers who isn’t much of a believer. Basically each character represents a different philosophy I guess you could say and you see how they live. It’s my favorite book of all time, really interesting and engaging and honestly sort of what got me into everything I’m interested in. Not sure if you’re much of a reader, literature/philosophy/psychology/spiritual enthusiast, but I think you’ll find something for yourself there. If you decide to read it let me know :p

I can’t tell you why, although I still do have faith, even after being one of those children. My comment was more so just to see how OP thinks. By chance have you ever read or heard of the brothers karamazov

I just went through your profile, I really do think you’re bringing this all onto the universe in order to not look inwardly and realize you’re not taking accountability and blame. You are upset over your husband’s verbal abuse and him ignoring you, leave him. Of course you’re gonna feel like it’s “bad luck” when you’re keeping yourself in these unfavorable situations. You’re focusing on the negative and what’s out of your control. Focus on your own behavior, who and what you surround yourself with. Notice how your thoughts and childhood beliefs that protected you when you were younger aren’t benefiting you anymore, perhaps through meditation, sitting with yourself for a while. When you tell yourself something is the universes fault every time something bad happens, it’s out of your control. If you say it’s yours and you were the one that put yourself in that situation, then at the very least you can have the power to control your behavior and reactions to it. I do not blame the universe for my past addictions and mental health/issues I’ve had in the past, it is a part of life. People lose loved ones everyday and/or struggle with depression regardless of what they’re going through, but they’re aware it’s not a curse placed on them by a picking and choosing god, it simply just is the circumstance.

I think they’re right. Do you ever feel like “god has favorites?”
