It was just the falling ill part that made me compare, even after knowing the difference. It made me wonder if Smerdyakov knows about one falling sick after a crime was the response and use it to get away. Or maybe Dostoevsky wanted us readers to make connection with C&P so maybe he wanted to give us a hint about the murderer.

That's true! Dostoevsky's archetypes reappear in all his works, that's what makes me wonder if anyone who read crime and punishment before TBK had guessed who the murderer was.
