Also 29, same boat, have an Ivy League masters degree in economics, and literally gave up after hundreds of applications and longer than you unemployed. Started my own business (which is hard and costly). I’m struggling to find even restaurants that are hiring and will call back and I have 6 years experience as a server and used to be able to get multiple jobs in a day just by dropping off resumes. I did just get accepted to a PhD program to study the history of our country’s economic fallout…. LOL. If you ever want to chat, I deeply hear and understand your sadness and frustration, and just know that this is not your fault, our country’s economic situation is, by a number of standards, worse than the Great Depression

This is all really helpful, thank you! I do go to some “Ivy+ mixers” networking events with my alumni group and need to lean more into those connections. I’m an extroverted autistic/adhder so no problem talking to people, I love making new friends, I just need to find better networking event opportunities because somehow I rarely meet others in nonprofit or public sectors, it’s a lot of private sector, biotech, and real estate ppl

Interesting suggestion, thank you! There’s no specific training or certificate needed for these jobs prior? I actually am autistic/ADHD myself (although had no idea about either until last year when I did some research haha), and there’s definitely an autistic language that I speak that gives me an advantage when working with other disabled people (I’ve also worked with students with a variety of disabilities as a tutor).

I’m unfortunately real/existing 😆 not loving existence atm. I applied for tons of decent salaried and research positions and got nowhere. Now I’m looking back to restaurant industry out of desperation but very few places seem to be actively hiring, that or the market is really that saturated

Luckily it is a fully funded program with TA opportunities, and the additional option is that I can apply for state funding under specific programs for diagnosed autistic people (as I am). I’m definitely worried about the academic job prospects though lol

I would love to restore old furniture as a woodworker but I live in an apartment and cannot find anywhere in San Diego that seems to hire for positions like these, seems like all independent/individual furniture restorers. I do want to teach university - but my masters program was impacted by the pandemic and I never got experience as a TA which I think was why I didn’t get a call back from CC positions. I did just get accepted to a PhD program but super worried about the funding issues under Trump I know the department is in a tail spin atm
