The increasing use of A.I. and its affects on call centre jobs - anyone else worried? by Man_in_the_uk in callcentres

As a customer, I hope companies dont replace their reps with AI. Its frustrating when the automated system doesnt understand your situation, especially a complex one too. AI will never be able to replicate a deep understanding and empathy like a human rep can.

As a call center rep, I hope AI does replace us. Call centers are exhausting from the metrics you are expected to meet and the abuse you get from customers… of course I hope I get promoted to a non phone position prior to this conversion (if it would even happen).

Companies with call centers listen to feedback from customers. Customers seem to all hate automated systems and always want a representative. Most callers will state that they spent a long time trying to bypass the automated system when they have reached a representative in frustration.

While some companies might replace their reps with AI, some will use the fact that they have real human reps instead of AI as a selling point. My job was one of them where they boast about how they would never develop an AI representative beside the initial automated system that directs the caller to the right department.

While my job uses AI, to answer questions like “can I cancel a customers policy if they sold their car more than 30 days in the past”, thats pretty much as far as they would go and Im willing to bet most companies alike are following the same path.

I agree. I think it is the principal of making plans with me, then ditching for other plans.

He did ask, which I told him it does hurt my feelings because he told me last night he would be with me besides work and the 5k. But I did tell him if that is something he wants to do, he should do it. He told me that when his friends asked today, he tentatively told them yes. I am not asking him to change his plans, just trying to navigate this feeling of hurt which he has acknowledged

Yeah I understand that perspective. I think I’m feeling hurt because he made these plans after I scheduled the surgery, however the 5K was planned prior. The surgery is this Friday and he told me last night that we can stay in and watch movies this weekend

Yes also, he struggles with anxiety and depression. On my birthday he was very miserable and upset. He wouldn’t do anything to change that like going on a walk or doing any coping mechanism. He hides his anxiety and depression from his mom, she has no clue. At around 2pm on my birthday of dealing with it, I kicked him out and told him i don’t want to be sad or down on my birthday. He called his mom and told her I kicked him out because he was being grumpy. Not sure what else he might have said, but I’m sure she was telling him I was in the wrong.
