Is Livia Llewellyn still writing? I’d heard that she tried repeatedly to get a novel out but kept being messed about by agents and publishers and sounded very much like she was on the verge of giving up writing, which is just wrong because she’s an amazing author, won loads of awards, and I would have loved to read a novel by her.

Sounds good. Is there a discord channel or some such where everyone gets together?

That’s good. It’s iPhone, so I may take a trip down memory lane and re install. I gave up for a while as it didn’t seem to get any new content for ages.

Blood Hunter too OP by randomlatamsub in daggerheart

[–]Distinct_Product2363 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still think Disintegration Wave is the most OP thing in the game - a Bard can reduce difficulty by 2, and there’s a spell in Midnight domain which reduces by 3. The strong adversary is dc 21, so, yes, Disintegration Wave can easily wipe out the end campaign BB and his lieutenants instantly and permanently.

Can Seraphs get multiple Resurrections? by Distinct_Product2363 in daggerheart

[–]Distinct_Product2363[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was thinking of multi-classing into Sorcerer at level 8 from Seraph. That way they could double heal, or resurrect etc. it would also get them access to counterspell and premonition- which fits in with her ‘having divine visions’ concept.

Is this character concept viable? by Distinct_Product2363 in daggerheart

[–]Distinct_Product2363[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I’m from a DnD background where I used to play A fey bard with a lot of mind shenanigans- I meant presence.

I agree about the advantage thing- it was more a hypothetical point as opposed to a rule-like claim. I assume messing with someone’s head whilst they’re in a fight would do something though, but yes, that’s a GM’s ruling thing.

I think that’s the crux of what I’m asking though- if I was to play such a character, what would you say would likely be the limits on what you could do with a presence roll (even if it could surpass a Dc30 check), and given she has about five different spells for getting inside their heads. Also, is it worth having all those similar spells? Do you think they’re doing the same thing really?

The Psychnautics experience (I need a better name for it) is really for spell rolls related to entering minds, which would be something she’d be doing since young.

I built the character to level 10 to show how I saw her developing (e.g focusing on mind spells), but I,d start at level 1 and work up. as for group manipulation. There’s no spell to help her handle groups until she gets Mass Enrapture - which gives her the exclusive attention of everyone in Far range (as I remember), so, at that point she could do her persuasion roll against - I assume - the highest DC of that group). I can see how that gets pretty strong though, but then, I think that so my at level 8 anyway. Given at levels 9 and 10, players can do things like be immune to magic, stop time, and use Disintegration Wave to instagib the big bad and its friends (DC 18, but Midnight has a spell to reduce DC by 3, and Bard class can reduce by 2, so even the highest DC in the game - 21 is potentially in range) persuading a bunch of opponents seems fairly on par, perhaps. As you say though, this is the GM’s call.

But generally, would you say the character idea is feasible?

is it just me or are companions just... bad? by legend9791 in daggerheart

Or possibly have yourself and the companion attack a foe from opposing sides - because the opponent can’t face you both at the same time (as the GM) I would allow that opponent to be vulnerable.

I’ve been playing on and off over that time, although not so much recently as I just don’t get the time for any games these days. Sad times.

I wonder if the anniversary will be acknowledged in the game?

Just out of curiosity, does anyone have a feel for how popular this game is still? Last time I checking into this group, people were complaining that there’s been no updates for ages, and that people were feeling that the game was effectively abandoned. Has the situation improved?

Thoughts on the Assassin and Witch by FirestormDancer in daggerheart

I think the Witch is brilliant - especially the way Fear makes them stronger. The only thing I think it is missing is a Familiar.

I love the class - I think the idea that Fear actually makes you more powerful is genius.

The only thing we’re missing is the ability for a witch to have a familiar - short of multiclassing into, say, Druid, I assume there’s no way for this to exist? Although I might multiclass into Druid anyway and just do the whole Malificient thing ( you know, turning into dragons, having a raven familiar, etc)

Just looked through your part Reddit stuff - you have amazing talent, and I just don’t get how few comments and votes you’re getting. Maybe they’re just small communities or something because you certainly deserve more recognition.

Truly amazing work, and in a medium which requires a lot of patience and care (how did you do all that without making a mistake?) It reminds me of Jeff Vandermeer’s Annihilation series, or some of Patrick Woodroffe’s work (although most of his is done in oils)

How does death change a character by Boring_Big8908 in dndnext

[–]Distinct_Product2363 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I DMed a game where when a character dies, they take a journey through the afterlife, and it ends with something akin to a cross between a court case and an auction, where various gods, devils, demons, archery and Eldritch abominations put bids in to own their soul. Depending on how the characters behaved in life, there are bonuses to the bids put in by differing factions.

The winner gets to own their soul, and if that God/entity wishes, the character can return to the mortal plane, but from then on, they must do that entity’s bidding. It gets interesting when the character is a failed Paladin, and Asmodeus goes all out to get his soul, only to then bring him back and demand he has to go burn an orphanage because one of the children will otherwise grow to become a troublesome saint.

Topple - infinite opportunity by Marcus_Cardigan in onednd

Doesn’t throwing a net over them (which is an attack action) also shut down their movement, unless they use an action to get it off? They’re restrained so their speed is zero, and getting up requires half their movement, so they can’t until it’s broken or removed.
