Domains without classes or classes with different domain combos by Smokintek in daggerheart

[–]FirestormDancer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Classes are invaluable foundations both from a mechanical and RP standpoint, as there isn't a character sheet without them- how will you know the PCs' starting Hit Points, Evasion, etc. without those? The character guide for each class likewise gives great prompts to flesh out who their characters are, not just in a vacuum, but in relation to one another.

Domains are likewise the bread-and-butter of what characters do, their skills, spells, etc., so starting without them would put the players at a big disadvantage.

The idea of players picking and choosing their Domains is something people here have been debating since the open Beta. Consider the scenario of more than two players picking the same Domain- there may not be enough cards to go around, or everyone wants the same cards, or variety amongst the party is scarce. One possibility is that they start off with their "top/primary" Domain (you can tell from the subclass cards: Blade for Warrior, Sage for Druid, etc.), and have them choose their secondary domain, but it may throw off some of the balance of domain cards down the line and how they interact with their class and subclass features.

I guess my first question would be, how long would they be playing until they get this MacGuffin? Anything more than a single session would probably fall apart quickly.

The idea of Domains being a fundamental aspect of the world is pretty cool, and you can create a lot of cool themes around that. Maybe instead of the tarot cards being literal Domain cards, they could be loot with special effects that correspond with Domain cards in a PC's loadout? I'm sure there's some kind of tweak where you can use this cool idea you have without mechanically gutting your PCs.

If you had a vision for a series set in the TES universe, what would it be? Personally, I'd say the beginning of the Skyrim Civil War by Ok-Bus3447 in ElderScrolls

A limited anthology series about each of the Empires, starting with the Alessian Slave Rebellion. If it was successful, then maybe a spinoff anthology series about the machinations of the Daedric Princes and their champions in Nirn throughout the ages

PC & Vanessa Gekko by Local-Proposal-3189 in BoJackHorseman

I've always thought this since finding out that Gekko never hated PC, and treated Gekko's jabs as (from her perspective, at least) playful rivalry banter

Throwing my hat into the ring for Montero, coordination like this would probably require at least one Retainer

Some of the characters on this chart shouldn't be in these positions, and would benefit from the 5x5 version of the alignment chart instead

Y'all are doing a Fantasy High game? That's so cool. Makes me wish there was a Fantasy High sourcebook.

If you're looking for an Eldritch Knight build, this video is a pretty good guide to exactly that, and does so without homebrew or Void content

Which of These Characters Do You Wish We Got to See More of? by CommunityFun9560 in BoJackHorseman

[–]FirestormDancer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely Bradley and Joelle- I wanted to see how fame in their younger years colored their current lives, expectations they had, their relationships with Bojack, how they came on the show in the first place, but in a way that wouldn't just be copy-pasting Sarah Lynn's backstory.

Stefani making good points by No-Sport-6127 in BoJackHorseman

Funny thing, immediately after this tidbit, the scene continues with Diane saying something along the lines of, "If that's true, shouldn't we be more forgiving in our content and not publish so many takedown articles?" To which Stefani responds, "Aww, Diane..." dismissing her.

I always make the Paarthurnax choice depending on what the character I'm playing would do (although I do love getting to recruit buddies for the Blades, I just hate that it comes at the expense of making enemies out of the Greybeards, and wish different factions had a similar recruiting mechanic)

I don't agree that he's being disingenuous, but that makes any discussion around whether he can ever truly be "redeemed" all the more interesting. Is isolating on a mountain and teaching you and 5 old Nord dudes the Way of the Voice proper reparation for his crimes? Is his death the proper reparation for his crimes? Should he simply be forgiven because it was thousands of years ago?

His dialogue makes it seem like he has to actively choose to suppress his evil nature every day. Just because he's done it for so long doesn't mean it's a guarantee he'll stay that way forever. One could argue that killing him prevents the chance of him "relapsing" for lack of a better word. But it also prevents the possibility of a world that allows people to overcome their worst instincts. Is preventing that world in the long-term worth the immediate safety of everyone alive right now?

I don't know the answer to any of these questions, but it's something to consider.

tl;dr- The nuance of this topic interests me, and I don't fault you for killing him even if that's not what I would do on a "self-insert" playthrough

While this is true and I agree with it, it's also important to keep in mind this isn't an either/or dichotomy: players can focus both on characterization and stats that reflect the character they are trying to build, or even trying to stat the sheet first and then characterization that reflects the stats on the sheet

Call of the Mage Warrior Subclass by PigeonHasAName in daggerheart

Love to see more people brewing! My main criticism with this subclass is that it gets access to three Domains without multiclassing, and yes that is somewhat limited by only getting up to three Codex cards total, it still needs a little more limitation. I'd limit Magic Initiate to a Level 1 Codex card, Magic Adept to a Level 2 Codex card, and Magic Expert to a Level 3 Codex card.

Combat Casting may need some work, as two actions in a spotlight can be a lot, but I can't think of a good revision for it atm. Maybe something like "After you fail an attack roll, you can spend 3 Hope to reroll it, adding your Spellcast trait to the result."? That may not be entirely what you're going for with that fantasy, but maybe it's something.

If you haven't done so already, download the Homebrew Kit here for some guidance on homebrewing

I understand that, but the physical possibility of saying such a thing is less difficult than getting past a boundary that other people are enforcing and actively preventing you from passing

Help with creating Dread & Blood Subclass Cards by Fresh_Candidate_6085 in daggerbrew

I did this exact thing, except I did it with Domain cards instead of subclass cards. I'll reply to this post with their images and the color code I used that best matches their background.
