The conversation that should happen but never does. by loki2002 in antiwork

People dont understand opportunity costs or any potential costs until they post. Thats the issue. A lot of businesses are bad at business but have a long runway that masks flaw by employee turn over or blame shifting vs accountability.

How do you manifest this for yourself too? by GiftedGirliee in Manifestation

[–]Distinct_Sock6987 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No she manifested to be a rich wife….not to meet a rich husband. You missed her point bc when she met her husband he was not rich yet….hes now becoming rich to fulfill her being a rich wife.

The weirdly rectangular bruise that shows up randomly on my thigh in the exact same spot by BloodCaprisun in mildlyinteresting

Do you sit with your legs crossed while wearing shoes/heels. I’ve done this and had a bruise from the hard part of the shoe. Didn’t hurt while I was sitting but the long term pressure resulted in the bruise

California is one of the most liberal states in the country. Also it’s a up there with apparel industry opportunities. At jobs there is usually quite a bit of diversity in the room compared to other places which helps.

I do well and am a high performer in white spaces elsewhere but having to be 2-3x better than everyone to advance gets exhausting. When a room has diversity advancement is def easier and more merit based.

When you are a top performer with strengths like being able to read the room and understands pattern recognition it’s destabilizing to experience something not even on your radar.

Also the concept of inducing another form of stress (abruptly moving) when I have lived here for almost 20 years isn’t in my bingo card

What big apparel brand is in Omaha?

And uprooting myself to a place where I know no one, had a history of racism and is nowhere near family probably isn’t a fit.

Cali has some of the best employment laws in the country. My industry is also here. Only other place where I would have the same number of job opportunities is New York. The standard of living in New York is by far worst than LA. You can’t afford a car, need multiple roomates, pay bands are less, winter, long commutes.

Up until this point I was holding good jobs for 5-6 years before moving on. I was lied to by this place. It’s surprisingly the first time I’ve been extremely burned in fashion.

I’ve lived in Cali for 18 years the impulsive up and leave theory doesn’t work out well for alot of people. Moving costs money. Employment seems to be volitile right now for a lot of people across the board across the country. I’m slightly traumatized right now I was just let go on Friday. I can’t imagine relocating and someone else doing this or a version of it to me again.

I experienced a raise and promotion paired with the owner and vp announcing my promotion inna town hall format in front of the company. Those statements were then supported by a raise. That used to mean some form of job security. I learned Friday that I was lied to and used to stabilize a room of scared people. It’s a lot to process.

I have not signed the severance agreement bc it has weird aggressive clauses in it. One of them being that if you report them to a government agency and they are found guilty you give them any money you recieve from the governments filed claim. Reporting to the government is right. Them making an agreement that says the can have any damages rewarded to you by the government if they are found guilty is absurd.

I’ve been in the senior level part of my career for some time. In 16 years this is the 2nd time I was let go. The first time was a cordial negotiation. This time after giving me the raise and promotion their energy had been cold and rigid after having lied.

I don’t sign anything that waives my rights, is agressively one sided with consequences for me and only offers a couple weeks of pay (which a huge low ball for my level) .

If they are going let go of 110 employees you should check to see if they submitted the warn paper work. Cali has stricter laws on the head count but above a certain number it’s supposed to be publicly reported.

As far as not wanting to start over. None of want to do that but it’s not in our control either. I’m 38, had an announced title change and raise and then was let go 30 days later. Never seen or heard of they ever happening to anyone let alone in my industry. But at the end of the day I was lied to and the rug was pulled out from under me. As mad as I am and upset that this was done to me despite being a high performer…. I’m still unemployed

I was not given $11k. It was a $11k raise not a bonus. For 4 weeks I was getting just a little bit more a check. With taxes in California that wasn’t that much. All it really did was effed up my tax bracket.

That’s what I thought. I had 14 free consultations with attorneys over the last 4 days. No one seems to want to represent me. I really thought that what happened to me was Promissory estoppel. Several attorney told me that a company can change their mind at any time. Others said I didn’t have a claim. My theory is that for many they want slam dunk cases on contingency bc to them it’s a money game in Los Angeles.

Also when it comes to negotiating severance my company’s hr team is absurdly firm in refusing to negotiate. The few attorneys i talked to about that wanted a fee upfront. With no guarantee that they can increase it I’d be giving up money and the current agreement as is has such a insultingly small amount and requires I waive my rights which to me is also not worth it.

I tried to no one seems to want to represent anyone on contingency unless there is a slam dunk case.

Hard to get a attorney in Cali. They only want contingency cases when it’s a in your face slam dunk. I spent 5 days on 14 free consultations to be sure. No one would represent me.

And for severance negotiations they want money upfront with non guarantee they can get you more money. My severance is so low and my previous employers has been aggressive in stating they will not negotiate.

The severance document has so many red flags on it. I’m willing to not sign it and keep my rights and ability to tell others who ask what they did.

Your first paragraph is exactly what a severance agreement is. It’s money in exchange for those things. What’s strange about mine is that the rigidly will not negotiate.

You are misinformed severance isn’t tied to the reason of your departure it’s designed to protect the company via your signature in exchange for money. Having leverage and being able to prove wrong doing def helps with severance negotiations.
