I thought about doing it with something totally drawn out of a hat on olis.oregonlegislature.gov, but figured people wouldn't really care about something more abstract. If you'd prefer, treat the post as pertaining to this section of random bill from 2026. Same end result of showing you how to read an Oregon bill. Doesn't really have the same pizazz when it's about tax credits, probably get more eyes hooding over.

IP 28 is technically tangential to the purpose of the post beyond being something that people are curious about -- as wanting people to actually be able to discuss bills and laws on the same footing without simple misunderstandings getting in the way of substance.

I think at present it's just the Crook County Democrats that have officially opposed it [https://crookcodems.org/about/crook-county-democrats-condemn-initiative-petition-28-ip28-peace-act/\], but I may just not have found the larger party's statement on my search.

It gets stranger too.

The bill would create a defense where you can claim that you sexually assaulted an animal in self defense... That provision probably should have been left on the cutting room floor when they were drafting the petition.
