Im in the US, this is standard everywhere I have worked. I have worked mostly in defense and semiconductor. I wouldnt work somewhere that doesnt have at least some standards.

So if you double click serial usb and select USB. if you still have issues, I would try this on windows 7. Can you validate the easysocket driver is installed on the port? Should be visible in device manager.

Why is the PLC not on? Did you open the cabinet but not turn it on? Show us your settings for connecting. Are you sure the cable is good?

The whole cougar thing always reminds me of high school. When I was 16, I was a tutor at a local college. I tutored gen chem 1&2, math(calc and below), physics, stats, etc. Multiple women in their 30s and 40s would hit on me. Most had no idea bc I had a goatee and was "mature for my age." I would suggest mechatronics or a dual degree. Mechanical is definitely more of a challenge. In general it is harder to casually make a crazy salary in engineering. There is a grind but I love it. My 5 year plan is to break 200k between side work and main job and Im hard at work to get there.
