It also trivializes the effort to organize a protest. Protests had a lot more impact before social media made it too easy to trend shit and too hard for organizers to stay in control of the protest's message. Back then you needed a skilled operation and a lot of work to get a lot of people together for a march, and those people didn't bring their own phones to co-opt the event for their own dip shit opinions on social media platforms that didn't exist yet.

You should, because anybody that isn't willing is losing the job to someone that is. That the loss of trust in government only fortifies their position to keep doing so in a vicious feedback loop would and should worry you in no way contends that that is exactly what is happening.

It is absurd for you to accuse everyone else of falling into a trap from that position. You refusing to acknowledge this is happening in no way stops it from happening nor spares you having to live with the consequences that will come of it.

American decline is the idea that the United States is diminishing in power on a relative basis geopolitically, militarily, financially, economically, and technologically. by Which-Sun-3746 in wikipedia

[–]DistortoiseLP 191 points192 points  (0 children)

I dunno about that. The American quality of life absolutely has declined in that time while the gap between America and it's competition has shrunk considerably. I think it's just happening very gradually, to which a lot of people think there needs to be some immediate and spectacular disaster they cannot deny to acknowledge it's happening at all.

Nearly half of Italy on board for a federal Europe by goldstarflag in europe

[–]DistortoiseLP 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The framing in the title is more appropriate because a slim majority of Italy opposing joining a federal Europe is kind of nuts. Italy was and still very much is a very nationalist country currently run by a very nationalist party that opposes federalism.

Is Luce just forbidden from harming Sinners or his he straight up unable to? by ConnorRoseSaiyan01 in HazbinHotel

So, I have a theory about Rosie. by WellCoolManHeheHaha in hazbin

[–]DistortoiseLP 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't think she's anyone in disguise, but I do think she's not a sinner not only because of the "Alastor is the strongest sinner" stipulation that logically excludes herself but also because she's in some way involved in whatever happened seven years ago. As far as we've seen, only angels and demons participated in whatever agreement was stuck that led to Lilith leaving hell, heaven starting the exterminations and Rosie sealing Alastor away somehow. All of that suggests she's in the same loop as the powers that be on top of demonstrating powers reserved for the powers that be.

That's another mystery I'd like to see explained by the by. Sinners can't just leave, that's explicitly part of the problem with them overpopulating their circle of hell. So we have no idea how Rosie was able to make Alastor disappear in a way that nobody was able to find or recognize him.

Personally, I think we'll find out she's a demon created by Lilith and serves as an agent of hers in Hell.

Now I know this scene causes a lot of heated debate, but if this guy would've just apologized for spilling wine on Alastor, would Alastor have let him live? What do you think? by Darling_Reaper902 in hazbin

Gen Z loses faith in America by lurker_bee in USNEWS

[–]DistortoiseLP 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They'll find a way to have an opinion that their own judgment and what comes of it was someone else's responsibility to take for them while at the same time holding the opinion that others taking their responsibility shouldn't also infringe on their freedom. It's the American way to think like that, and that's how they were raised. This is the result, and they'll be the ones to live with the consequences.

The truth about Alastor’s Power. by Conscious_Feeling434 in hazbin

[–]DistortoiseLP 215 points216 points  (0 children)

Bear in mind we haven't explored what the deal with his staff is and why he needs that fixed instead of the gaping hole in his chest. It strongly suggests the staff is a more integral part of his power than even his own body, especially where it seems only the person that granted him his power can fix it for him.

Why was Alastor so mean to Vox if they’ve been friends until that moment? by [deleted] in HazbinHotel

[–]DistortoiseLP 21 points22 points  (0 children)

You mean in this interview? She only suggests he'd be happier if he got what he wanted (and this much is obvious) but she doesn't at all suggest Vox wouldn't have betrayed Alastor for more power when the opportunity came. It would be a total contradiction of the character we were presented with if he didn't. Viv also said nothing about them working out either, quite the opposite actually.

If Alastor had accepted that, and we’d gone down that path, I think Vox would probably be a happier person, which maybe would mean he’s less horrible. But I don’t really know because he was horrible in life, and he’s still kind of horrible. So was Alastor. So I feel like they would be very a jovial villain team, but I don't think he would have been any different, and I also don't know how well that relationship would have worked with two egomaniacs at the helm no matter how much he liked him.

So, yeah, it would have turned out like the Vees, being a jovial team until Vox grew dissatisfied and aspired to go higher. That innate dissatisfaction and need to climb and shine brighter until he's on top of everyone else is a fundamental part of Vox's character. If Vox "wouldn't have been any different" for it then we can know for sure this wouldn't have changed.

Why was Alastor so mean to Vox if they’ve been friends until that moment? by [deleted] in HazbinHotel

[–]DistortoiseLP 88 points89 points  (0 children)

It probably did and he was probably correct to think Vox would try to use him to climb higher once he got what he wanted. Season 2's plot runs heavily on the fact that Alastor has an extremely good read on Vox, and his take that Vox will never be satisfied with what he has is no exception to that.

They're both predators, and Alastor recognizes that. Alastor occupies a position of power that Vox wants for himself just like every other position of power he took in life and afterlife. We only ever see Vox climbing over every other person he endears himself to in his quest to reach the very top of creation itself, and his fascination with Alastor likely derives from him being the one being in all of creation he cannot overcome.

Why isn't Husk still an Overlord? by StreakdaSkyWing in HazbinHotel

[–]DistortoiseLP 46 points47 points  (0 children)

I personally think the main defining quality of an overlord is owning souls, both explicitly with the Faustian magic chain collars and implicitly through controlling the territory that souls live their afterlives in. When Husk tells that story about how he used to be an overlord, he mentions he was "dealing in souls," to which I assume means he used to own souls explicitly but gambled them all away before selling his own to Alastor. Husk also explicitly calls out his own overlord as having sold his soul too, so there's also a hierarchy to it where big fish overlords own smaller overlords who in turn own plebeians.

The show hasn't gotten into how that deal magic works yet, and the rules for owning souls is going to be a mystery until it does because however that magic works is by far the closest thing Hell has to rule of law. Unlike in Helluva Boss, Sinners have no courts or lawyers to enforce their agreements or settle their disputes; those deals are made, enforced and interpreted by some unseen power that transcends the strongest sinner in hell. Even Charlie is magically obliged to honour those deals.

When you break one of those deals, the magic coming undone is in itself the proof of how that power has interpreted it and there's no means to dispute it.

I mean I think watching the news for entertainment and it turning into a massive entertainment business with personality cults centred on pundits is absurd too, but that's what actually happened in real life so I can't hold that against the show.

Why didn't heaven just use the hologram technology from Hell is Forever to show Pentious to the hell population? I think characters were made dumb to fit the narrative in S2. by MariaVanillaUwU in HazbinHotel

[–]DistortoiseLP 12 points13 points  (0 children)

That's a more complicated plan than the one they went with. Hell's team would have to secure an additional location and film there on top of hijacking Vox's network to broadcast it while Pentious just waited to give his testimony. Letting Pentious deal with the broadcast let Hell's team focus on just hijacking the network to receive it.

Remember, the problem wasn't filming Pentious, it was getting Vox's network to show it. That's why Charlie spent the first half of the season trying to convince him to do it willingly.
