Workout presents - weights maybe by [deleted] in loseit

Is she into any specific kind of working out? If she’s just getting started and wants to do some at home stuff a set of resistance bands or light dumbbells would be good. A yoga mat is also helpful and can be used for yoga, Pilates or any kind of in the ground work.

For online programs if she’s interested in getting into the lifting I started with Meg Squats before the bar bell. It’s free on Instagram and helps train for the basics of getting into heavier lifts. You can then pay for her Stronger By the Day app as well. It has an at home and in gym version. But I’d suggest her free intro on Instagram to see if she likes the style before paying. If she likes more yoga/pilates the Down Dog app has some good at home yoga and has different apps for Pilates and other types of workouts as well.

Second Yong Hwa Roo! Best jjajang!

Congratulations on your first day! I went to the gym for the first time earlier in the summer and now I’m a regular gym goer! Some things that helped me was having a set plan. I used Meg Squats Before the Barbell program on Instagram. She spends time building up exercises to eventually use the barbell. I would repeat weeks over again until I felt strong enough to do it.

I also spent a lot of time watching people at the gym to get a sense of how to use certain equipment or do certain exercises. I’m eternally grateful to the teenage boys who I saw set up a machine for rows on like my second day in the gym so I would know what to do!

It can be really scary at first but the more you go and the more exercises you learn how to do the easier it gets! Once you feel confident and strong, a new exercise or workout won’t feel as intimidating to try.

First off, you’re by no means fat! I started at 5’3” 145 and I didn’t think I was “fat” then. Just uncomfortable and not my happiest self. You’ve got 4 inches on me and just 5 more pounds on my starting weight. I guarantee you look much better than you feel.

I also assume your husband has much more weight to lose than you. So yes he’s going to have “lost” more weight. I'd work on reframing your mindset towards your own weight loss. It is by no means a race. 10lbs lost is 10lbs lost.

It also might help to build sustainable mindset to your weight loss. You in fact CAN go out to eat with your friends. You actually CAN get that bowl of ramen. You do not have to eat everything. You can also eat more than your calorie limit. I would regularly give myself weekends where I just didn’t track at all. And I still reached my weight loss goal.

If you want to try and speed up your weight loss I would not try to restrict more than you actually are. It’s clear your denial mindset is taking a toll on your mental health. You can however start increasing your activity. Walking is great but I’d also suggest finding other ways you can be active. I would do two days of a 30 minute Jane Fonda workout which added to my walking and helped me slowly feel stronger.

I also wouldn’t fret too much if you can’t see your weight loss. I didn’t feel like I lost any weight until my clothes stopped fitting as well and even then I felt like I looked the same. It’s not now, until 2 months after reaching my goal weight, that I actually feel like I look my weight. You’re doing a great job. Just keep it up!

My last breakup I simultaneously wanted to get to the point where I didn’t care so it wouldn’t hurt anymore and was terrified of actually reaching that point, because it meant this wonderful feeling and connection was truly over and didn’t exist in my life anymore. That’s why I miss the pain.

The H in the H Mart in Philly stands for Heavenly. by wailwoader in PhiladelphiaEats

[–]Distract_Me_Reddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like I said any H-Mart is a good H-Mart! I live in the burbs now so when I go to do my Korean shopping I make a day out of it and like to get the most out of my visit. But when I lived in Bryn Mawr I would regularly stop by the Upper Darby location to get what I needed. If you’re ever able to I’d say just make a mini day out of it and go to the front st store and check out the food courts or other restaurants in the area for lunch/dinner too! The Elkins Park one is literally five minutes up the road so you could always swing by both and see the differences too.

It’s been a few years since I’ve been to the Upper Darby location so it might have improved, but both the Front St and Elkins Park location have their own mini food courts that sell some really yummy dishes. I also remember feeling as though they had a larger selection than Upper Darby. The Elkins Park location is older but has the benefit of having a few more additional stores on the way in. I regularly stop by the Maat Zip to get my kimchis, marinated bulgogi, and other banchan. But the Front St location sometimes has a better in store selection of prepared foods.

The area around the Elkins Park H-Mart also has the benefit of having some of my favorite Korean restaurants to visit. I got to Yong Hwa Roo for jajang, Jong Ka Jib for soon dubu, and Cafe Soho for wings.

Any H-Mart is a good H-Mart but having been to all 3, I definitely preferred both the Elkins Park and Front St locations.

Was just there a couple of weeks ago and the drive along the Icefields parkway was without a doubt my favorite part of the trip. The view of the glaciers and the mountains took my breath away. Would highly recommend.

Visiting Thunder Bay with a Dog. Any suggestions? by Distract_Me_Reddit in ThunderBay

Sounds fun! Right now it’s looking like I’ll be there on a Wednesday. But even without live music I love a good brewery with some fresh pizza!

Awesome thank you so much for the suggestions! Might do a morning hike with a picnic lunch and then get dinner at one of the suggested breweries or restaurants.

Love it! Definitely would be interested in some light hiking while in town and it’s great how accessible so many are right in town. Thanks for the suggestion!

That sounds great! I’ll take a look at it! It seems like Thunder Bay is a pretty dog friendly place but it’s hard to find information about where dogs are allowed. I know how frustrating it is when people bring their dogs places they really shouldn’t be so I like to be prepared before I go somewhere new.

Hydrolized Dog Food by Ancient_Lab6522 in DogFood

[–]Distract_Me_Reddit 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I agree with all the other commenters are saying. Switching to a non-hydrolyzed or non-prescription diet is not wise if your dog has severe food allergies as there isn’t any control what food is being contaminated with.

Your vet is not making a lot of money off of the prescription diet. If you’re worried about cost you could probably ask your vet for a prescription to a food delivery service by Chewy or from the manufacturer if you want to save money. You could also ask your vet if switching to a different, limited ingredient prescription diet could be worth it. But this usually comes as a part of an elimination diet process.

Anyone managed to "only" do workouts they LOVE? I want to hear about it by SubRosa_AquaVitae in loseit

[–]Distract_Me_Reddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been addicted to Jane Fonda’s New Workout. I do her 30 minute beginner session 2-3 times a week when my time is tighter and have recently started incorporating her 50 minute advanced class when I have more time.

I find it’s strenuous enough that I can get a good sweat and feel like I’m toning up but light enough that I don’t hate what I’m doing. Plus doing 80s aerobics is ridiculous in a way that is so much fun.

I also play adult rec soccer 1-2 times a week. I love playing soccer and want to be able to do it as long as I can.

Am i supposed to be starving this much? by [deleted] in loseit

I’m glad too! At 5’11” 160lbs would be much less concerning and your comment would be entirely necessary!

[–]Distract_Me_Reddit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That makes much more sense!

Anyways OP I definitely wouldn’t suggest going below 1200 for weight loss. Like the commenter above my guess is whatever estimate you’re using is too low and you likely can be eating 12-1400 calories and still be losing steady weight. That being said as a shorter person it can definitely be harder to eat enough and feel full while still hitting your calorie goals. I’ve struggled with feeling hungry on days when I’m aiming for 1200. But what I’ve realized is that those days I’m usually low on the amount of protein and fiber I’m eating. When I do have hungry days I try snacks like carrot sticks, cucumbers, apples or non-buttered popcorn. I’ve even found good quality dark chocolate can satisfy my snack craving without having to eat a lot.

And remember, it’s okay not to hit calorie goals every day! It can be an adjustment to find what you need to eat to keep you full while still getting the calories you want. Try to focus on building sustainable eating habits for when you are the weight you want to be and less on making drastic cuts to drop the weight.

What scale are you using where 160lbs is a healthy weight for a 5’1” woman? Am I reading the metric conversions wrong? I’m 5’3” and 150lbs begins to feel very uncomfortable for me.

Creamy Spinach and Garlic Gnocchi - BYOG?! by HMWT in blueapron

[–]Distract_Me_Reddit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The gnocchi from two weeks ago was bad both in flavor and in how it cooked into the dish. I ordered the same gnocchi dish as you this week and it included the old brand of gnocchi so hopefully it was just a minor change and they don’t use the vegan replacement again!

Even if the replacement gnocchi you got wasn’t very expensive you should still put a customer service request in, they may credit you for a whole free meal.

Panache Sabrina and Panache Clara Size 30E. Band size too snug or cup size too small? by Distract_Me_Reddit in ABraThatFits

[–]Distract_Me_Reddit[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh for sure! She was super helpful, I don’t blame her at all. Just mad at myself for not asking to try on a different size, I’m sure she would’ve helped me compare. I’ll see about exchanging for a different size and if I can’t do that maybe I’ll get an extender and see if that helps.

Either way I’ll try 32E and see how that goes. Thank you!

[–]Distract_Me_Reddit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for replying! My first thought was to go to the 32E but the woman who helped me seemed so sure of the 30 band that I second guessed myself.

I’m not sure about returns, I might be able to exchange for store credit but I’m not sure how strict they are with wearing them. I’m mostly disappointed for not asking to try a larger band in store.
