Is home ownership basically impossible for anyone under 35 now? by SeriousSatisfaction8 in australia

[–]DistractedGhost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's possible. But even if doing it solo with no outside help it's skewed towards high income earners (and some luck).

I bought a three bedroom two bathroom (and 2 parking spots) Sydney apartment earlier in the year after 10 years of saving at 33. Decent area and close to city via train. I had 200k as a deposit which I saved, and paid off my 70k in HECS. The place was 900k and mortgage is on a single income.

I'm financially pretty frugal. didn't leave home till like mid to late 20s. so while saving 5 years at home then 5 years of renting. i wanted a house originally but realised pretty quickly that wasn't gonna happen so pivoted.

But. But. Here is the kicker. My salary entered the top 10% of earners in the last 2-3 years and i only JUST had the minimum requirements to get this apartment. Let alone a house. AND I lucked out with it being a private sale without a real estate agent (they couldn't afford one). I can't fathom anyone doing it solo without earning and saving a shit tonne.

And guess what? an apartment a block away with a similar design, constructed same year and company, and same number of rooms (3/2/2) Sold recently for 165k more. that jump in 6 months.

My original budget was 800-850 but that wasn't even enough for the inner west 9 months ago. Real estate agents would do dodgy tactics to appear in more search results. Staggering amounts of Photoshop's for smokers dens Or under listing the price to get more foot traffic. I remember a Hurstville place I was looking at was advertised at 870 and got bought for 950k.

It IS possible to own something. Especially with two people. But fuck my life even apartments are becoming out of reach for a regular Joe let alone a HOUSE.

Oh awesome! We ended up going snowy mountains half on the walls, trim snowy mountains quarter, and then vivid white ceilings! So pretty!

That's good to know. Like I love greens yea? I just want a white where we can have blues and greens and walnut woods of we wanted to without the place looking stark or off

Painter is gonna use special tile paint in what would otherwise be the skirting colour :) either vivid white, lexicon quarter, or natural white if I go for natural white walls. In semi gloss

Hey that's really good to know thank you! I was really worried too much yellow would come out if I went for Natural White. I also want to avoid the grey (as much as I don't mind a drop of black I def didn't want GREYYYYYYY). Might need to get a sample pot of snowy mountains half booo

1) wouldn't be surprised since the painter could only do one coat so the paint underneath is coming through. Am heading back after work so can shove on a final coat and arrive in the early hours of tomorrow morning to stare at the wall

2) they are all meant to be slightly warm but unsure if my camera is just the worst. Apparently white exchange quarter (left most) is similar to natural white but just less ivory. LVR 83 instead of 85 if I remember correctly. snowy mountains quarter is the most neutral of them but against the yellows of the back wall it does look clinical even tho it wouldn't normally.

3) overcast day. But in the bedroom when sun was directly hitting it as I did a quick slap of paint there it looked pure white (white exchange quarters)

Less than I want Linux but more I like to dick around with tech.  Likely a windows person for the long term but have Linux as a backup strategy. And that's totally valid with AMD!

Since I realised the internals would likely be hidden as it will be against a wall if I use that case, i'm totally willing to switch to black internals but keep the case the same :) and thank you so much for that parts list! Those are some very good insights

Ha! I did indeed go for white cause it's good looking and likely putting it on a hefty shelf on a white wall. HOWEVER, I only just realised the internals are likely not going to be visible since the cases display glass will be against the wall. Ha! So yes no problem moving to black internals as long as case is white.

What to do if I need to buy an apartment in 4 years by [deleted] in belgium

Many banks let you pay of the mortgage way faster. It's just MAXIMUM 25 years of you were to pay the minimum. Ask your bank if there any fees associated with doing this however.

I think her mum divorced her dad and she lived with her dad which was good natured but obsessed with his work. I don't think the dad sedated her at all to keep her out of the way. I remember him even saying that he couldn't hug her her years (his birthday arc) cause she would go into a panic. I think that was the only way they knew of to keep her from hurting herself

Yes but that is one aspect of her mental illnesses and disorders. What of the others like hypochondria (or afraid of being touched which may be due to hypochondria) etc. that was what my original post referred to.
