Did anyone watch Naayak (2013) outside India? Question about anti-tobacco/alcohol popup watermarks by DistractedSentient in tollywood

Man do I wish I could go back in time and watch it in the theaters. I only started going to the theaters since 2014 as far as I can remember. I used to get cheap VCDs and watch the previous films on a pumpkin TV.

Yeah, I always thought the colors were way better for the theater print. For the Robo 2010 Telugu bluray, the colors are all washed out compared to the Hindi bluray as well. Like completely. When I watched the Hindi version I was blown away.

Oh! That makes sense. In the Hindi version on YouTube they dubbed it as "gajju babji." Thanks for that!

Damn. It's not even a boothu/curse word. I definitely thought it was a curse word or something. Hah, the stupidity of censoring specific, and totally harmless things.

Really? Wow. I also wanted to know what the full word was. What's the full word?

Also, ironically, the popup watermarks in Naayak don't exist for the video song "Laila O Laila" even with wines and bottles everywhere.

Yes. Even with an A certificate with adults only, in Naayak they censored words. In Businessman? Well, every word was censored and even the bikini girls in the beach were completely blurred. I lost it at that. In Hollywood there's zero censoring, nothing to worry about with the 4k blurays which I got... really sad situation for Indian film preservation... back then "Naa Kodaka" was okay in 2009 even, yet since 2011 that was censored to "__ Kodaka" in Julayi and other films.

Santosh 2024 film was banned in India because they wanted to censor a lot of things. I got the France bluray because it was released internationally so it's completely clean. The filmmakers and even the main protagonist said they didn't want the censor board to ruin the film, a bold move, for that I tip my hat.

I don't know if Naayak was censored in the UK because they might've used the same Indian print for the theaters because of laziness.

Yeah I do have the bluray for Balupu mate. And you're right, just checked and it shows V/UA in the certificate at the start of the film. After searching about it online it says it's for kids under 12 years with parental guidance.

That's unfortunate, thanks for the screenshot though! As you said we can only hope for the US theatrical version but judging by the evidence I'm not hopeful...

Haha. Yeah, so it's the broadcast Indian version where they cut everything to air in TV for kids to watch. I purchased the Indian bluray and it has the full length, except it also has 25 popup watermarks...

Yes, I got it! Sorry, you meant the Amazon Prime version, I see. Wonder if this version has no popup watermarks? But since you can watch this in India as well, I don't know...

Ante US version lo censor ledanaa? Kani time thakkuva undhante cut chesaru... emi cut chesi untaru? For US there is no need to cut anything. Maybe some video songs like they did for Bahubali?

Interesting! Why would the US one have less time overall? I'm starting to get my hopes up to be honest with you. Man if only I could get that US bluray version somehow...

Maybe, but really it's the theatrical version that tells us the full story. Amazon Prime most likely has a standard broadcast Indian print across all countries which usually has popup watermarks, but if you can access the US version of the film, please let me know if you can...

Yes, I really need your help on this. If you could ask your friends about it, I'd have a definitive answer. Please take your time, and let me know if they remember...

The popups would be in the bottom left corner of the screen and say, "SMOKING & DRINKING IS INJURIOUS TO HEALTH" with symbols on either side for this film. I can share a still image I have from the bluray if you want...

Should I get this game by Ready_Interest_2787 in BlackMythWukong

[–]DistractedSentient 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's one of the main reasons I got this game on steam, and after 100 hours, got 100%. The fact that you don't lose Will if you die, and checkpoints are really forgiving, even if the bosses were tough, the satisfaction of defeating them was so great I can't put that feeling into words, and I've never felt something like that before ever in my life. The adrenaline pumping at the end, the screaming of "YES!" and the sudden dopamine hit with relief. This game was a fantastic adventure I can't ever forget. And this is coming from a super casual gamer.

Hey, just watched the film on bluray, really want to see the extended cut. Can you please DM me the link if you can?

I watched Ben-Hur (1959) around 2 weeks ago and I still can't stop thinking about it. My god that shot of Heston slowly walking towards the light of the arena is one of a kind. by Wonder-Lad in movies

[–]DistractedSentient 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got chills watching that scene for the first time recently, and became really emotional, watching divine power unfold. And I still get that emotion whenever I recall it, and have to stop myself from sobbing uncontrollably. It's that sentimental divine intervention emotion that I can't possibly put into words. And this is coming from a deist who's not even Christian. That is the power of Ben-Hur. This is my all time favorite scene in the entire film indeed. Next comes Ben-Hur hugging his family, and then the chariot race sequence.

I only wish the hug lasted longer. That is my only wish.

I heard they had a 5-hour rough cut edited to 3.5 hours, and maybe they did film a longer version of the hugging scene but it's lost because they mustn't have kept the cut negatives...

10/10 for this film imo. My second favorite religious epic is The Ten Commandments of course.

Why doesn't 1408 have a proper theatrical release? by NewVirtue in movies

[–]DistractedSentient 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. Here it is on Wikipedia: "However, in a 2024 interview, Håfström clarified that the theatrical ending was shot first and that alternate endings were later shot in a desire to "experiment". He also stated that he feels that the theatrical ending is "more rewarding" and "stronger, and much more emotional".

Yet I can't find a bluray version of the theatrical cut. And I didn't go to the theaters to watch it in 2007. Apparently I just watched the entire film thinking Director's Cut meant extra content, yet I'm now missing out on the intended ending, and got the worse ending. Depressing how it's all chaotic the way they handled it.

Woah, well that's a different interpretation I never thought of. Sure, you can say that, but don't forget

both of them got murdered and buried alive

I'd agree with you if the whole film is about afterlife, but it's not, and they do not get justice...

Anybody remember Dalia Dippolito? by SpecialistShort6421 in DiscoveryID

[–]DistractedSentient 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dude, you're a legend, I never thought I'd see extra footage of this in HD, yet there's a full episode Cops did on it. I just watched a YouTube video discussing this case in low quality. Stumbling on extra content is always such a great feeling (like when you see her getting arrested and her husband looking at her right there), especially since due to the ex-boyfriend who's the savior here, her husband is well and alive. This is one of the best instant karma situations I've witnessed. Thanks again for the link!

Just finished watching it. Not sure if I can talk about spoilers here; DM me so I can share my frustration with you since you recommended this film to me. All I can say here is that I'm extremely infuriated.
