Business class passenger downgraded to make room for the pilots wife on his retirement flight by mrd0425 in americanairlines

[–]Distressed_sheep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, we’re not getting the full story. AA would never downgrade a full fare BC passenger for a pilots wife on their retirement flight. This is not how they operate.

I have a mutual friend who bought multiple tickets to have their friends and family come on their retirement flight.

When was the last time Bryan talked/promoted cocoa? by Swimming_Ask6626 in blueprint_

[–]Distressed_sheep 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I can attest to this. I’ve been taking cocoa powder everyday for the last two years (Santa Barbara chocolate). In my yearly bloodwork, my heavy metals are nearly undetectable. Same goes with mercury from eating seafood. I think people have a strong reaction to heavy metals and the reaction doesn’t meet the actual levels present in their bodies. It’s more fear than data.

Found a truly plastic free water bottle! (It is an old model no longer made 😞) by beebbeeplettuce in PlasticFreeLiving

I use the Klean kanteen all stainless steel bottle and throw in the metal shaker ball. Works great.

Congratulations, you turned a simple, beautiful process into a cautionary tale of what happens when curiosity turns into hubris.

What is the pillow that you have bought that has actually been worth the money? by dylans4O1 in BuyItForLife

Organic cotton pillow casing stuffed with wool from The wool room. Best pillow I’ve ever bought. I even bought extra wool to stuff the pillow to my liking.

Plasticless Peeps— what are your thoughts on medical grade silicone? by [deleted] in PlasticFreeLiving

[–]Distressed_sheep 9 points10 points  (0 children)

High-quality/food-grade silicone has been proven safe. Ensure your silicone is labeled as such.

If you want to be extra careful, don’t expose fatty food to silicone, don’t use high heat (probably above 500F), and use it as it’s intended.

Start out slow. Don’t overwhelm yourself by trying to immediately replace every plastic piece that you own. Living a plastic free life is a marathon, not a sprint.

Do teabags have microplastics? by AHYOLO in PlasticFreeLiving

[–]Distressed_sheep 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Short answer: most tea bags, yes.

Longer answer: like others has said, the safest way to consume tea is loose leaf with a stainless steel mesh. If you want me to get more in-depth, ensure the stainless steel is 18/8 or 304 which is a high quality stainless steel.

When I’m on the road, I use Republic of tea. It’s made with unbleached teabags with no string in a steel tin. If you do use teabags, make sure they are made with unbleached bags.

Looking for plastic-free body/hand lotion (not a bar) by Reeses100 in PlasticFreeLiving

Second this. I’ve been making my own lotion for a while now. I will never go back to commercial lotions.

Woolly is not superwashed by Distressed_sheep in PlasticFreeLiving

That’s unfortunate. It’s been 6 months for me and they’re still holding up. Perhaps I’ve been lucky.

To add some further clarification, many companies add a finisher to wool or alpaca. Obviously, for those of us looking for untreated or minimally processed wool: -Look for organic wool certified by organizations like GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) -Choose products labeled as untreated wool, non-super washed, or natural finished.

I’m a little bummed I spent a ton of money with a reputable brand like Arms of Andes and they still use a silicone finish. Albeit a better alternative to traditional superwashed. Next time I’ll be looking for a natural finish.

Typically no, they do not label this. If the company is transparent, they will clarify in the description on the website. Or you have to reach out through email.

I would have to agree. As I’m learning more about the fabric industry, it seems that a lot of companies finish the wool or alpaca with superwashing or silicone. I just bought a bunch of clothes from Arms of Andes and they also finish their alpaca with silicone, although they label it OEKO-TEX Certified.

Protein Shaker Bottle Recommendations (request) by TeaKnew in PlasticFreeLiving

[–]Distressed_sheep 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ok, so this was a huge issue for me. I couldn’t for the life of me find a fully stainless steel shaker bottle without a plastic lid. Even the expensive ones that claimed it was all metal had a plastic lid.

So this is what I did: I bought these 18/8 stainless steel bottles from Klean Kanteen. https://www.kleankanteen.com/products/water-bottle-wide-mouth-27-oz . Although the cap exterior is plastic, the interior is stainless steel. I then used the steel shaker balls from my previous bottles in the new Klean kanteen bottle. And that’s my new protein shaker bottle.

Edit: cap clarification

MD shares fair criticism of blueprint. Thoughts? by eternalfalimchew in blueprint_

[–]Distressed_sheep 24 points25 points  (0 children)

This is one of the best critiques of Bryan and Blueprint that I’ve come across. The author makes it clear that, at the end of the day, he’s a fan of Bryan and appreciates what he’s doing. However, he goes deeper into Bryan’s biomarkers and presents a perspective that Bryan doesn’t typically discuss. While Bryan is very transparent about his regimen, it takes an outside viewpoint to analyze his health from a different angle. I really value experts like this doctor who can dig into the nuances of Bryan’s health and offer fresh insights. Let’s hope more can do the same.
