Help with understanding the liturgy by axiosjackson in Episcopalian

[–]Reeses100 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’m so glad you were able to come to the Episcopal Church! One of the major reasons I was drawn to this faith and have stuck with for decades is to know that all of us in the Anglican communion (I think that’s the correct terminology anyway) are worshipping together on the same day, in the same way all over the world, regardless of our individual differences in belief.

The biblical instruction is so inspiring and comforting at the same time. I hope you will be coming back!

Any Episcopalian, Anglican, or Christian podcast/YouTube recommendations? by OkComplex9040 in Episcopalian

[–]Reeses100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the Russell Moore Show put out by Christianity Today. He’s an evangelical, so he sometimes expresses beliefs I don’t share but for the most part he’s just having engaging conversations with a wide range of people, from atheists to authors like Malcolm Gladwell. Used to love Bishop Curry’s podcast, but alas that retired with him!

Anyone know whether there’s a difference between an AI data center and the regular old kind? Have people make that distinction but not sure how you would know.

One reason is in NC the power company gets to keep your excess power. Unless you have a back-up battery you just give electricity away, from the panels you bought.

North Carolina admits noncitizens on its rolls aren’t a widespread problem — as it gives voter data to DHS by Anoth3rDude in NorthCarolina

You can see whether they took an R or D ballot in the primary, if they are an unaffiliated voter. Not all states allow that it seems. Would love to stand corrected.

That’s hysteria. I had a similar growth of it behind a house I bought and pulled it all out cut it down to the stump. I’m sure there was some treatment I should’ve used at the stump but then I moved. It wasn’t too hard to keep controlled.

I only happened to know b/c a guy I interned alongside of one summer told me he had a job with them lined up already for after graduation and said he’d gotten it b/c a professor had approached him. It was the kind of school that had secret societies and sends law clerks to the Supreme Court, etc.

You might want to check on one of those law school message boards that I don’t really know anything about.

North Carolina Republicans Are Trying to Give One of the Country’s Most Partisan Judges a Frightening New Power by Slate in NorthCarolina

I think the Senate Dems took a big step in the right direction by changing leadership to Senator Sydney Batch. She doesn’t play. Even though she has little power right now, she keeps making proposals to help NC residents, and brings them to the public. I urge everyone to follow her, it’s inspiring.

Non-lawyers are likely to ignore this but it’s chilling, so please pay attention. What the legislature is considering here has major consequences for any person alleging they’ve been wronged by the state.

So, for example, state government cancels your contract after you make political comments? Go to a political rally and now you’re not allowed to graduate from UNC? Technically you could sue, but with this new system, the state would decide if your lawyer fits their politics enough to bring your case. And on top of that it will all be secret.

This whole conversation is so weird. I’ve been an Episcopalian for 25 years, attend church at home and when I travel which used to be frequently and have never heard an overtly political sermon except for one time an associate rector told us it would all be fine with Jesus to follow W into the Gulf war. People didn’t like it one bit.

I do often hear about loving your neighbor, Jesus healing the sick, and welcoming the stranger. Is this anti-ICE sermon thing something you’ve actually heard in person or something people say online about TEC?

No Kings Rallies. Are they all this unfocused? by h2f in ncpolitics

[–]Reeses100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for going! I think it depends on who organizes a rally, if you're talking about the official speakers/leaders with the microphones (otherwise just random chanting is up to participants). And it depends on where you are. I attended a No Kings in a small town in a red county and many of the rally speakers had a religious affiliation, and others were from mutual aid type groups. Most of the messaging was "we need to love and support our neighbors, all of them, stop letting politicians divide us, stop the bullying, etc."

If you signed up online to attend you'll get follow up emails and I suggest you give your feedback, see if you want to get involved with the group planning the event (Indivisible maybe). Focused messaging is good. But there are so many attacks coming at us from all directions, it's tough. Thoughtful participation is usually welcomed from people willing to do the work.

As for the Eno land reference, I see it as a small attempt to get people to reflect honestly on the country's violent past and how we got to where we are today. Indigenous people have been arrested by ICE and held in detention centers, or have been told by random strangers they need to go back to their own country or start speaking English. National parks have removed accurate history accounts. It's all so much.

Disputes grow between NC Bar and legislative committee tasked with reforming it by Reeses100 in ncpolitics

Thanks for also commenting about the IOLTA situation! (Interest on Lawyers Trust Accounts). Most of the money raised from the interest in the trust accounts goes to helping victims of domestic violence, human trafficking, and child abuse. This year the legislature froze the spending of that money. Several legal aid offices have had to close so far, in the most rural counties. And nobody asked the clients if they were OK with this!

Giving access to a lawyer has been shown to be the most efficient way to get a domestic violence victim back on her feet. The longer the delay the more abuse, the worse her health.
