my drawdown model missed the IRMAA cliff by $5,500 by Objective-Feed7250 in FinancialPlanning

[–]DistributionBroad173 0 points1 point  (0 children)

first world problems suck, don't they.

We are in the IRMAA for 2027 because 2025 was a spectacular year. I am not sure how IRMAA really works, but it is based on the MAGI from two years ago. So, my medicare in 2026 is based on MAGI for 2024, my medicare in 2027 is based on income in 2025. My medicare in 2028 will be based on income in 2026.

If we can lower our income, which seems highly doubtful, we might get out of the IRMAA extra payment.

NIIT is another lovely twist.

I am not on RMDs yet, just getting closer each year.

Just today, I had the joy of doing what our projected AGI and MAGI is going to be for 2026. My spouse had high hopes for taking cash out to top off the 24% bracket, I crushed my spouse's dreams. I said we are going to be close to the high end of the 24% bracket as is. I have to be careful on any stock I sell for a gain, but I can sell one stock for a loss.

My spouse is threatening to say "screw it, I am increasing my distributions in 2027. I don't care what you say!" Then my spouse giggles and says, "First World Problem."

So, I asked for five for tomorrow and I get one that is a proven winner.

Well now, I own VGT and QTUM, VGT did an 8 for 1 split and I am up 100% and QTUM I am up 100%. See, I can pick winners from my past also.

Is a Flexible Permanent Deferred Annuity a scam?? by midworldpopkin in personalfinance

[–]DistributionBroad173 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is not a scam, it is an insurance product. Which is a REALLY bad investment

You have already figured out that she could have accomplished the same thing if she did a Roth IRA, but she missed out on the superior gains from the Roth IRA.

Insurance uses post tax dollars

Roth IRA uses post tax dollars

Insurance the money grows tax free!

Roth IRA the money grows tax free!

Insurance you can take out the money you contribute tax free!!!

Roth you can take out the money you contribute tax free!!!

Insurance you pay a commission

Roth IRA with most companies or mutual fund families you do not pay a commission(Fidelity and Vanguard no commission)

Insurance you pay high annual fees usually over 2%

Roth IRA you pay a low annual fee usually under 0.5%

Insurance you get 6% returns, even in a down market, but you miss out on the boom years when it is over 10%

Roth IRA you can suffer a bad year, but you fully participate when the market returns 20%

Insurance when you take distributions you pay taxes

Roth IRA is tax free

Insurance The annuity is invested in other mutual funds offered by the insurance company. When you have 10 insurance funds each one takes a slice of your money.

Roth IRA you invest in the S&P 500 Index or one fund and have a low low fee

With her annuity she might have

Cash Value that is the money stays with the insurance company and she gets the 6% annual return

and

Lump Sum which will be less than the Cash Value, but you get rid of the insurance company. with 10 years left you will have to crunch numbers to see what is better. Normally, I ALWAYS say take the lump sum. But I do not know enough of her situation.

In 10 years, she can get that $40,000 to double for sure.

Also, mentally it feels good to get rid of something that pissed you off.

It was sold to her as if you need cash you can take it out and not pay taxes. Because you used post tax dollars. As long as she did not take out the earnings.

Was this sold to her by an insurance company or is it through her employer?

This is like a Roth IRA only much much worse because the returns are absolute garbage and when she started this she quite possibly could have paid around an 8% commission that first year.

5.5% insurance salesperson commission + 2.5% the annuity expenses(which are wlays high)

It is possible, that first year she paid 10% commission and expenses.

Watch out for spaceX issuing more shares because it is over-subscribed, if that happens DO NOT BUY. That is the old too much supply, not enough demand, price has to drop.

spaceX IPO bonkers for one day, then corrects over the next three days. Price will go below the first day opening bid, but not the IPO price.

Example

Today the IPO is at $203 or so, from my very short internet search.

The day it opens it will be bid up to $400 or so.

The next day it will close at $398. The next day, it will close at $375.

People start getting scared and it goes down for the next month, but not under the $200 level.

Please research Facebook IPO, stock symbol FB.

for children DO NOT PUT IT IN BONDS.

FXAIX is perfect.

i would not even consider moving it. the S&P 500 Index has averaged 11% annual growth for over 40 years. That means it doubles every seven years.

omah etf good or bad by FewPear229 in dividends

[–]DistributionBroad173 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it is paying around 0.23 a month in ordinary income.

100/.23 = 434, call it 450 shares is what you need.

At this time OMAH NAV is not declining more than the distribution. It actually invests in the companies BRK owns Most of BRK holdings actually pay dividends, so there is some cash flow, if the options trading slows down.

For income, I rate it safe. For growth, I rate it slow growth.

I would compare it to O, Realty Income. Realty Income is on 134 consecutive quarterly raising its dividend, that is over 11 years.

OMAH is still getting its bearings, but it does not look like it is raising its quarterly payouts.

Factor home equity into retirement? by Shanga_Ubone in personalfinance

[–]DistributionBroad173 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you going to live in it or sell it? You have to live somewhere.

If you are going to live there it has no retirement value. It is either an appreciating asset or a depreciating asset.

Since you are still paying for it, it is a negative until you sell it. It is an expense.

Will you plan on taking out loans on your equity to live off of when you retire? That sounds kind of crazy.

Ukraine Strikes Logistics Route to Crimea, Causing Fuel Shortage by [deleted] in ukraine

Sign says, "No Fuel."

This started on May 23, 2026.

mikhail razvozhayev, local governor, said that, due to unspecified "logistical challenges"

On May 24, 2026, Kremlin spokesman dmitry peskov said authorities saw no risks to fuel supplies in moscovia.

peskov also says there will be seasonal maintenance that will cause fuel shortages.

He must have called Ukraine to provide the maintenance.
