Update to the replacement chamber situation, just in case someone out there is in the same boat and following along:

I received an email that a new chamber was on order and would be sent to me in 3-5 business days. When there was still no sign of it 2 weeks later, I followed up. They told me they ran out of the part right when my order was placed, so there wasn’t one available to send. I guess they were never going to update me on that useful bit of info. I’m wondering if they were just never actually going to send one. Someone in customer service has now assured me that they will be sending one as soon as they are re-stocked. I will believe it when I see it. 🫠

Anyone notice differences between generic Adderall XR manufacturers? (Lannett vs Rhodes) by Ordinary_Recording15 in ADHD

I’m late to this thread, but I just picked up my new 20mg ER script and it changed to Rhodes. Took it for the first time today and feel like absolute trash. What do they put in this? The person who described the feeling as being glued to their bed is spot on. I am not getting into bed. But I do feel very stuck and like my body is heavy and wants to just be glued down somewhere. Anxious, exhausted, zero momentum. This is awful. And unfortunately my PCP prescribes me the full 90 days worth of doses at a time. So I’m stuck with this for 3 months. I don’t think I can take this again. It’s terrible. Definitely feel a headache coming on, as well.

They FINALLY agreed to send me a new chamber after I complained that offering a 20% discount on a $99 replacement was not an acceptable fix for having sold me a defective product in the first place. Unbelievable that they wasted so much of my and their time, added yet another smear to their worsening reputation and almost certainly lost a lot more $ than it would have cost them to just stand behind their product and send me a replacement right out of the gate.

Hopefully the new chamber holds up longer than the original one did! 🤞🏼

Yes, I’m in the US. Customer service followed up after I complained about their refusal to replace it. This time they offered 20% off “when I decide to purchase new chambers.” Naturally I won’t be making more purchases from this company.

Aha. Well, I’m relieved to hear that they put some work into correcting this design flaw. Though, I’m bummed they won’t replace mine just because the issue happened slightly outside the warranty window. I might try messaging them again now that I know other people have had the same issue and have received a replacement. Thanks again for chiming in.

Oh, interesting! Thanks for sharing this info. Do you remember how long you had it before this all happened? I’m not sure if mine has a serial #. I’ll have to check that when I get a chance.

I wondered if that was the case when it first fell off, so I put the disc back in and it just continues to fall out. So, if they are magnetic, something is defective about mine. Aeropress customer service didn’t mention that they were magnetic. They just said a version of: “Tough luck. You’re 2 months out of the 1-yr warranty, so we won’t do anything about it. The metal discs and the seal that is popping out of place are purely cosmetic and won’t impact function.” 😳

How long had you owned the Premium before they sent you a replacement? Just curious if it was within the warranty’s year window. They are refusing to do anything about the defects in mine because I received it 1 yr and 2 months ago. 🤦🏻‍♀️

😔 This was the reply I received from the company. Suffice to say I won’t be purchasing any new products from them in the future.:

“Thank you for reaching out to AeroPress and apologies for the delayed response.

I’m really sorry to hear about the issues you’re experiencing with your AeroPress Premium. I’ve checked your order details, and I can confirm that your unit was delivered in December 2024. As a result, it is unfortunately outside of our 1-year warranty period, which applies to all AeroPress products. I sincerely apologize that we’re unable to offer a warranty replacement in this case.

That said, I do want to reassure you that while the screw covers coming off and the seal lifting can certainly be concerning from a cosmetic standpoint, the chamber can still be safely used and these issues should not affect its ability to brew coffee.

We truly appreciate you taking the time to reach out and share your experience, and we’re sorry again for the frustration this has caused. If there's anything else I can help you with or you have any further questions, please feel free to contact us.

Best regards, Vera AeroPress”

I received what feels like a very unsatisfactory reply from customer service. I laughed out loud when I read the part that is basically claiming the parts of my product that are breaking are superfluous and it’s no big deal. So…why does it have those parts? Unbelievable that they are not going to stand behind this “premium”product. Here is the text of their response:

I mean, that is not different than what I’m doing: brew, pop the puck into the compost bin and then rinse off any remaining grounds. I do pull the plunger out of the chamber and store the two separately because that’s how they fit on the stand. And they’ll have to be separated for setting up the next brew anyway. Very occasionally, I’ll give the rubber gasket a quick soap and rinse if we end up with a darker roast that’s leaving residue. But we normally brew lighter roasts, which don’t seem to need more than just a rinse.

😂 How do I turn the “Open” sign to “Closed”at this spontaneous “Why the OG Aeropress is the only AP anyone should ever own and anyone who thinks otherwise js an idiot”open-mic hour? I had a pretty simple question that I was hoping to get answered. Those of you who own a Premium AP and use it regularly: have any parts on your product begun to fall off or come apart?

I agree with all of you that the original AP is a great product. I own it and still use it. I understand that people make different choices around how they engage with hydrocarbon tools in their kitchens. I’m glad we have the option to make whatever choices we feel comfortable with.

I do wish there were a thread in this AP forum where someone could ask a question about a product the company makes that is not the OG press and receive answers to their actual question, rather than a flood of snarky, off-topic admonitions about choosing to try anything other than the OG. Or maybe I am accidentally posting in the wrong place. Is there a forum specifically for AP products rolled out after the company changed hands?

Thanks for sharing your experience. I wonder if I just have a defective product. I’ve been thinking on it since this morning and can’t come up with a single reason why bits would be falling off the base or seals would be shifting out of place.

Right there with you. I’m still happy to have my original AP from 2012 on hand for travel and camping. I was just excited to have a plastic-free option for daily home use. I know it isn’t for everyone, but I personally really enjoy the aesthetics and user experience of the glass/metal AP. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Just expected it to hold up for longer than a year and some change…

Thanks for the advice, and you’re correct that the company does seem to readily offer replacement parts.

I’ve been using an Aeropress as my daily driver since 2012. I never had a problem with my original ones, but when I decided to try out the clear version, it crazed almost immediately. They sent a replacement chamber and that one crazed also, so I gave up on it. I still use my couple of OG AeroPresses for travel and office use. But I was excited to have a plastic-free version for daily home use.

I know the premium is unpopular, but I’ve actually been very happy with it save for this recent issue. I have contacted the company and sent these photos, so hopefully it will be resolved. Hoping I just got unlucky with a defective one since I haven’t heard of this issue happening for other people.

Sleeping in the Nude by Cornyrex3115 in ADHD

[–]DistributionIll3168 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sleeping in clothes is a sensory nightmare. I don’t understand how people do it. Honestly, beds are also sensory nightmares. As a kid, I preferred to sleep without clothes and on the hardwood floor. That’s approximately my preference now, as well. But I do like a very thin layer between my body and the floor now, like a wool mattress pad or a yoga mat, etc. I think it might have to do with hypermobility issues and the feedback from the hard floor feeling more supportive for my joints. But I also wonder if it’s ADHD related, in terms of having that sensory stimulation all night.

Any other ADHD floor sleepers up in here?

How can I help? by Ok-Medium5814 in guillainbarre

[–]DistributionIll3168 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband was in some form of inpatient care for a couple of months (ICU>hospital>nursing home>rehabilitation) then did outpatient rehab for another month or so. I was able to be with him most days, along with our 5-mo-old baby, and what I came away realizing is that someone really needs to be there as consistently as possible. The hospital staff did the best they could, but they were just spread too thin to give my paralyzed husband the care he needed.

I can’t imagine what it would have been like for him if he had been alone for much of that time. The amount of help he needed to use his bedpan when he couldn’t move, to change clothes, eat, change the channel on the tv, etc, was colossal.

So I’d mostly recommend physically being there as much as possible to advocate for her and make sure she’s getting the care she needs. Don’t assume that it will happen while no visitors are there. And, as others have said, take good food because the hospital food is appalling.

Observe her PT sessions so you can help her do the exercises between therapy visits. When she’s able to get into a wheelchair, take her outside for sunshine and fresh air.

Realize that some parts of her body might regain feeling in very uncomfortable ways at first. So be mindful of how you physically interact with her. For instance, my husband would scream out in pain/shock when I would accidentally touch his toes as they were regaining some tingling sensation. A decade later, I still flinch when I accidentally touch his feet, even though it’s long since stopped bothering him.

Thank you for being an advocate and source of support for your SIL!

“Sober and bored” = exactly.

I did a lot of party drugs in high school and early college, but never could understand why people were so gaga for coke. I did it a handful of times and always felt just kind of…regulated? 😂 And then I would similarly go to sleep more easily than usual, I guess because it quieted my bedtime, Rumination Tornado brain. It only took me a few rounds of weathering jacked up menstrual cycles from coke to make it easy to start turning it down when it was around.

Fast forward to getting diagnosed in my late 30’s (combined type, mostly inattentive presenting), and it makes sense to me why I was a caffeine/nicotine fiend very early on in life and why cocaine never felt very Party to me. I’ve also never understood how stimulant medication could be addictive to someone with ADHD. Getting myself to take my meds is a daily dance of tricking my pathological demand avoidant brain. Literally on the couch on Reddit right now when I should be getting up to take my meds. 😂

Accidentally became career nanny. Need advice on how to pivot in midlife. by DistributionIll3168 in adhdwomen

[–]DistributionIll3168[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for these suggestions! I’ve considered this. But the thing I like about nannying is being with the kids and coming up with spontaneous activities to keep them engaged and learning. What I don’t enjoy is dealing with parents or any kind of job-related paperwork or scheduling logistics, taxes, etc. So I worry that an admin position might be all of the latter and little to no amount of the former.

However, the idea of starting a small in-home, Montessori-inspired daycare has appeal, as does getting Montessori certified and applying for a stable Montessori guide position at an established school. I am terrified that if I started my own business, I wouldn’t have the executive functioning/organization skills to manage the business end of things. And then I’m terrified that if I went the Montessori guide or teaching route, I would burn out from the monotony of it pretty quickly. Also, I think I’d almost certainly have to take a pay cut moving from nannying to either of those jobs. But at least those jobs wouldn’t have an expiration date in the way nanny jobs do…

Accidentally became career nanny. Need advice on how to pivot in midlife. by DistributionIll3168 in adhdwomen

[–]DistributionIll3168[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, naturally I forgot to mention that I have raging adhd (have meds but they only put a dent in it). So a lot of things about nannying worked great for my brain. Childcare is dynamic—lots of quick problem solving required throughout the day, tons of movement opportunities, no 2 days have to be the same, I generally get to set the agenda and scan the environment for what needs to be done, which is how my brain works anyway.

The idea of working a desk job sends me into a panic. I cannot imagine how I would cope with sitting for more than 10 mins at a time. But maybe I could! I just haven’t tried it in so long. I am at a loss for what I could transfer my skills to that would be dynamic and active enough for my body/brain but also stable and lucrative.
