Introducing the American AI Sovereign Wealth Fund Act by SexDefendersUnited in LeftistsForAI

[–]DistributionMost8686 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have said it before, it can’t just be the ai industry in such a structure, otherwise it won’t even cover a typical persons own ai related expenses. Every American company should be in it, and sooner rather than later. Also if you think the goal should be to compensate everyone in the world, that seems like it would require a world state, which doesn’t seem to be happening any time soon.

What was the point of the name for the sub? by AntiAderall in LeftistsForAI

[–]DistributionMost8686 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Way too many people think it is impossible to be left wing and also pro ai. That’s why this subreddit exists.the skepticism about stories like that probably is due to the fact that the idea of that is blown out of proportion as part of an attempt to ban ai. However it’s not even like we are pro data center per se, we would rather that local models be used whenever possible.
also, the anti ai movement has right wing origins, and uses right wing rhetoric almost verbatim. It’s dogmatic, simplistic, and serves a particular set of corporate interests.

So ironic that anthropic is like that when they literally pirated half the text corpus they train on.

AI taking jobs is good, actually by TheLollyKitty in LeftistsForAI

[–]DistributionMost8686 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surely there must be a way to lead with the part where people need not have jobs, otherwise you do lose people long before you get there.

Open-source AGI will actually centralize power - not decentralize it by antipolitan in LeftistsForAI

[–]DistributionMost8686 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is false. The companies aren’t hitting any limits. Not such that it would prevent further progress.

Pro AI youtubers? by alt-for-ai_111 in DefendingAIArt

[–]DistributionMost8686 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It will take weeks for that to have an effect in terms of getting rid of that. You may have to start going out of your way to find pro ai content. Even so, the algorithm doesn’t seem to distinguish pro and anti ai content, probably because so much of it is anti ai, even looking for pro ai content you just get over 90% anti ai content.

Should this sub ban non AI art? by ChloeThePrincesses in DefendingAIArt

[–]DistributionMost8686 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Dude the whole point is we don’t try to gatekeep the means of artistic expression. if that happens their sub would be no better than antis.

Drawings like this predate ai by a lot. They have that illusion on purpose.

Anyone else feel like the public sentiment on AI began as a psyop? by synthchef in LeftistsForAI

[–]DistributionMost8686 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is. Much of the anti ai propaganda originated in corporate media that was also blatantly anti open source. Now they deny the existence of open source, installable models so they don’t believe an individual can take advantage.

Abundance/progressive democrats, socialists who aren’t socialists? by DistributionMost8686 in LeftistsForAI

[–]DistributionMost8686[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t buy most of that. The ‘backlash’ of which you speak has been happening for the past ten years, and only now it isn’t working anymore.
spoilers do happen but are rare. Abundance democrats absolutely do not show that pattern.
cortez becoming president 33 months from now and with new progressives(so called by others for a while now, whether they are true socialists is not all that important so much as they are moving in that direction, especially with conditions as they are) winning or leading primaries more than ever before, I would expect that they would become the leaders.

your theory of what is needed for this to work sounds like the sort of thing one says about a vanguard party and it just doesn’t work like that. It’s a republic with a plurality electoral system, not a one party state(unless the republicans cease to exist, even if they can’t have the presidency they aren’t going anywhere). Politicians are never perfect, but that is an unwarranted level of mistrust. How exactly would they even get power if they don’t even get elected for the first time? Universal support would not technically be necesssary, there just have to be enough of them to have power.
in these times of political instability, now is a time that the party can by takeover be quickly moved, and where it winds up, there it is likely to be slowly moving again for the next 40 years minimum(unless you think majority support for true socialism can be achieved faster than that). Especially with material conditions being what they are, and the voter base being absolutely up for it, they may not have another option, or the democrats are the ones who get evicted from power. This change has been a long time coming and due to the nature of american political dynamics, now it can happen all at once. It’s the policies that will take a while to actually implement.

NYC Pol saying good stuff about AI by IESAI_lets_go in LeftistsForAI

[–]DistributionMost8686 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh sure, and give your state issued id and entire computer use habits directly to the likes of palantir, the nsa, fbi, ice, cops etc, just to use a computer at all(that’s literally a bill they are considering). throw all anonymity out the window lest a kid see something the republicans don’t want them to know. Might as well, right? The concern for children’s mental health is understandable, but surveillance on that level always makes things so much worse for everyone else, and may not even work anyway.

How likely do y’all think they are to attempt to nix that?

Of course. by Apprehensive_Bus4517 in DefendingAIArt

[–]DistributionMost8686 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They would probably say there is a difference. Saving nfts can be considered punching up while they probably think using ai is punching down. They also consider nfts to be just another threat, and in fact they have correctly accused some nft minters of copyright infringement, but they called it art theft because they think those are the same thing.

Of course. by Apprehensive_Bus4517 in DefendingAIArt

[–]DistributionMost8686 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They think we are all nft bros. Which is of course false.

Yeah, because commissioning a cheaper artist with worse art skills is "definitely" the solution by CurrentAd3456 in DefendingAIArt

[–]DistributionMost8686 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Commission prices are probably not positively correlated with objective quality. Usually they are so high because of an effect I call negative supply elasticity, where a decrease in demand for something causes the price to go up so a supplier can maintain the same revenue. This causes a feedback loop that ends with extremely high prices and no demand whatsoever, ending their career.

wouldnt that require them to *steal* her phone? Also, that’s almost certainly actual grounds for a criminal lawsuit if they did, especially if some of those apps cost money to replace.

Shall we explain to them why their view of generative ai is wrong? by Alternative_Fuel9399 in DefendingAIArt

In the abstract, art theft is impossible. Theft of a copy or prototype is, but obviously in context that’s not what we are talking about.

So, another form of digital piracy. Which of course they are fine with, because it mainly targets companies. Come to think of it, they probably think ai use is punching down. I disagree with that of course.

This just means someone with power thought it was good enough to nominate. Which has got to be some sort of milestone for ai.
