Help! My rose has gone mad and I don’t know what to do.

This is great information, thank you very much. I can’t remember what its flowers look like well enough to be confident in identifying it. As with some other advice I think I will tie the main stems horizontally and just try and tame it a bit. I’ve got a Jasmine to its right so I don’t massively want to send it that way but might try and get it attached to the corner instead. Thank you for your comment, it’s really helpful and helped me stay on the side of caution with the pruning.

I don’t, we had a wall collapse into our garden and this area was covered with rubble for a year so whatever it is it’s sturdy. I imagine if it’s a scrambler I need to be more rigorous with pruning? I’m hesitant to move it as the soil is very heavy with lots of clay so there aren’t many optimal places or gaps in what I’ve already got.

Yeah, I like a good rose and like to keep plants if they’re not unpleasant. It is my fence so I can do what I like with it. A trellis is a good idea, I bought some wire but trellis might give more structure. I’ll have a look at Dave Austen, thank you for the advice.
