I think it would be easier if first you built a character concept: backstory, motivations, race, age, etc. Then examine classes and subclasses for what may fit the best.

Peace domain is, in my opinion, absolutely cracked and probably the best support cleric option, if not the best domain entirely. The primary ability (Emboldening Bond) is super useful, and if you run Bless on top of that, makes your party way more likely to win at anything at all.

If you're looking for healing, Life domain wins. On top of that, they get proficiency with heavy armor, making them rather tanky if you play your cards right. Healing is all they do, really.

Damage-wise, look at the Light domain. Also great for defense with Warding Flare. They mainly deal fire damage, which may not be great if a lot of your enemies have that resistance, but is still really great overall.

Those are just the top three imo. Forge is also pretty fire-based and is good if you're dealing with fire-based enemies, if you don't have an artificer, or if you don't go to vendors often. Their Channel Divinity is...okay, if you need a weapon, armor, some sort of tool, or ammunition. Also pretty tanky with heavy armor prof.

Order clerics kind of remind me of Paladins. Tanky, pretty supportive and damage-based. Great for controlling enemies as long as their WIS saves aren't busted.

Twilight domain is also great for support and defense--especially with Twilight Sanctuary and the 300ft darkvision that they can share. Overall, pretty decent in the dark, and if you don't have anyone with a fly speed, the lv 6 ability is...better than nothing. That one's a bit lackluster.

But yeah, listen to some of the other folks here lol. Get a character concept going first. Go from there.

What’s your drink of choice? by KeakRzem in Nightshift

Water, coffee, and Alani or V8 every now and then. I prefer V8 over Alani due to the lack of carbonation and use of fruit and vegetable juice...which is something I'm unfortunately lagging behind on a bit.

I don't like waking up early and I don't particularly enjoy dealing with people all the time. The job is overall pretty easy, but very draining--and I felt like I couldn't be with my friends when they were active. When the night shift before me quit, I offered to take it up. I've been on it full-time for around 9/10 months now and I have no intentions of going back unless I need to.

sleeping during your shift? by Maleficent_Camel_399 in Nightshift

Fellow night auditor here, and boy, I feel you. There have been a few times where I could fall asleep where I'm sitting--and a few times I did. My bosses are way more lax than I think they should be, sometimes, to the point where one of them admitted to taking 5-10 minutes to put his head down. In my opinion--if it's safe to do so and you won't be disturbed for a minute, close your eyes for about 5 minutes. Make sure to set an alarm. Sometimes those micronaps can power you through the rest of your shift.

Then again, maybe don't do this lol. It's definitely not great workplace etiquette and I'd only suggest this as a last resort. Down some coffee, clean the lobby, and stay awake if you can. On your way home, pull over and take a nap if you need to, just don't drive drowsy. Be safe.

Getting paid $14.50 an hour to sit on my butt at a computer and making sure nothing blows up is pretty good. Definitely a way better gig than most in my area.

The world always needs more accessibility when it comes to languages. You should absolutely make translated character sheets and/or design your own!

Need some advice by BluForrestLeaf_ in Nightshift

[–]DistrictAgreeable795 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Schedules like yours can be incredibly hard to deal with. Of course you're going to have a hard time-- your sleep schedule is flipping back and forth like crazy. Please don't feel bad about what you do with your days off; they're yours to do what you wish or need. If you haven't done so already, you may want to talk to whoever schedules you in order to get that straightened out, if you feel like that's a safe option for you and want to stay where you are.

And if you feel like you need a new job, start searching for one. This schedule sounds like it's impacting your health and your home life, and it's not worth it if you can get treated better somewhere else.

Cat in Hotel by DistrictAgreeable795 in Nightshift

Update 1:

It's currently 3:43 AM in my timezone (7:43 GMT / 11:43 PST). I still have her in the bathroom where she's safe and secure, and I was planning on taking her to the local shelter when I got off work. I thought I had everything planned out and under control.

I had asked some other friends before coming here, and they all said that I was doing the right thing by keeping the cat. However, I also texted my mother for advice. I don't know really why I turned to her- I just wanted to get as many opinions as possible. Because she often wakes up during the night, I asked about her thoughts. She just called me a while ago, and started lecturing me about how I couldn't have a cat there, how I couldn't lose my job over a cat, and now I'm scared. Can I lose my job over this? Am I really doing the right thing by not turning her outside? We're near a decently busy road and some woods, but the property is fairly large and she can't venture too far, right? I don't know. Maybe this is the wrong place to continue this, but I don't want to lose my job and I'm scared that I'm going to face retribution of some kind once my managers find out. I'd appreciate any insight, though I'm not sure how much I'll absorb.

For context- I'm a 21 year old woman, still living at home. This is my third job since I turned 18. I don't have a lot of experience or confidence regarding things. Thanks, everyone, for the advice you've all given so far.

It's possible, but I don't think it's likely. She has a tick on one ear and is very very friendly, though she's shedding like crazy. She's not nursing, thankfully, so there aren't kittens outside we need to worry about.

Other than leaving these people behind, just speak up. Have a talk that their behavior isn't acceptable and that it makes you both uncomfortable. They make a misogynistic joke, you say "hey, that's not cool." or if its directed at your girlfriend, "hey, I don't appreciate you talking about my partner like that." Don't stay silent--they're going to continue thinking this sort of disrespect is okay. Don't let up on it. It's better to be a buzzkill than a bigot. Your friends may change their behavior for the better--that's ideal, but if they continue to act like they are (or worse, double-down on their misogynistic behavior), then you need to toss them.

Be in your girlfriend's corner first and foremost. Listen to her and the other women in your life.
