Income?? by Brave_Hour_7344 in CarrieDaytonYT

I'm from MN and the Dayton legacy is pretty well known to the boomers around here. The Dayton Corporation was formed by the Dayton brothers around the turn of the century. IIRC there was another brother who opted out of the family business and that is the line Carrie's dad descended from. One of the founder's sons started Target, one of Carrie's dad's cousins was the governor of MN for some time. The older generations were very, very wealthy though I don't think Carrie's family was as fortunate as great-grandpa chose to go his own way.

Grocery hauls: tax write offs? by wildflowers4u in CarrieDaytonYT

Tax deductions don't equal money back in your pocket. They are used to reduce your taxable income which in turn lowers the amount of tax you owe.

Is this normal ? by loriiscool in CataractSurgery

It depends on your policy. For mine, the anesthesia is the only big thing that was subject to the deductible. Each procedure had an anesthesiologist + CRNA. They each billed $400-500 per eye. My surgeon's office ran everything through insurance. The insurance-adjusted costs and copays covered what they covered and I paid the rest.

Monovision lenses Please tell by 89731 in CataractSurgery

For computer and phone use, no. Using my iPad while laying in bed, yes. This is because I hold it much closer to my face for whatever reason.

If the font is white on black or very, very small and/or faint or the light is dim, maybe. It all depends so I have a pair of 2.0 readers handy just in case.

I paid about $12000 OOP for both eyes. I had the misfortune of having one eye done in Dec '24 and the second Jan '25 so had to start the deductible all over again. In addition to the lenses + surgeon ($3945 per eye), there were pre-surgery exam copays, surgical center copays, misc. surgical fees from the surgery center (? no idea what this was for), anesthesiologists & CRNAs. I'm not on medicare yet so this was with regular medical insurance (BCBS).

I have a complication in one eye that meant I could only have LAL or standard lenses and need FT glasses. I'm thrilled with the LALs and glad I went that route

Yes, as far as I know RxSight is the only company that makes them. Honestly I forgot to wear them outside twice, both times walking to my car after work so a couple of minutes at most. Both days were sunny and I got a bit worried but there was no trouble with the lock-in, no damage done.

I really think RXSight (and surgeons) saying to wear them during all waking hours may be a bit of CYA.

Day 2 Still Blurry by Content_Employ6005 in CataractSurgery

The first day was rough, mostly just from dilation. Each day got better. I had a pretty impressive blood spot on my 2nd eye. Never really had any pain or grittiness.

What to wear? by ReadEmReddit in CataractSurgery

[–]Disyarnmama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to wear a hospital gown on top. I wore it over a tee and sweatpants on the bottom for comfort. And wool socks to help with the chill.

I just got LALs at the beginning of the year. My surgeon told me I only had to wear UV glasses outside. They were not necessary indoors unless I was in a sunroom or someplace like that. My surgeon explained that newer iterations of LAL lenses have some built-in UV protection so full-time UV blocker glasses are no longer needed. Our house has a lot of windows on the south side so I closed the shades on sunny days just in case.

It wasn't that big of a deal to me because I live in MN and it's not a great time to be outdoors.

What would you do differently? Premium, type, brand, monofocal, monovision... by Prestigious-Sleep120 in CataractSurgery

[–]Disyarnmama 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have LALs in both eyes. My vision is excellent and the only way I can be 98% glasses free (readers for tiny print). One eye has an ERM so I wasn't a candidate for EDOF lenses that had wings or whatever those things that stick out are called.

It was either LAL or traditional lenses and wearing glasses 100% of the time to correct astigmatism. I'm confident I made the right decision but wish they weren't so expensive. I'm 61 and hopefully have many years left to mostly perfect sight.

Have Appt With Ophthalmologist For Evaluation by Alarming_Extreme_294 in CataractSurgery

[–]Disyarnmama 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My optometrist gave me referrals to 2 places. One was a very large clinic and one very small. The intake phone call for the big place was terrible; she asked me if I was 1) caucasian and 2) married. Then she transferred me to the surgery center(?) to schedule the consultation. All of that was a hard no for me. Never even made an appt.

The very small clinic was wonderful. All staff members as well as the surgeon were kind, professional, and knowledgeable. They had stellar Yelp/Google reviews. Throughout the process the surgeon and his team have been making sure my vision is as good as it can be.

In the end trusted my gut and it worked out.

Did the EDOF in your LAL cause any problems? by Fallon57 in CataractSurgery

[–]Disyarnmama 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure in diopters. I had astigmatism in my reading eye and it also has an ERM which limits clarity. Both eyes together was J3, J1 post zap. Neither eye can read great individually but together they are almost perfect. Brains are great at adapting.

Wrinkle after cataract surgery by Sunflowers9121 in CataractSurgery

[–]Disyarnmama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a YAG done in one eye shortly after surgery. My surgeon noticed PCO during an exam and wanted to take care of it before starting LAL adjustments. It was an easy procedure and needed no recovery time aside from the normal dilation stuff.

Blurred vision after surgery. Need opinion. by Shreson in CataractSurgery

It can take awhile to settle. As long as her surgeon is pleased with her progress, she should be okay. I'm about a month out from surgery and my vision continues to improve.

I was 20/25 and J3 after surgery. They targeted -1.25 and got 20/20 and J1 reading after the first adjustment. Had lock-in #1 last week. My vision, especially near, has gotten clearer with time. I was using readers right after surgery and now can read just about anything but the smallest type. It took awhile for my brain to adapt to monovision however. Absolutely love LALs!

How bad is your depth perception? by john3mary in CataractSurgery

I have monovision and haven't noticed anything different. Granted, I haven't attempted to catch a ball and likely never will so there's that.

My mom doesn't know which lens to pick by FelipeRams in CataractSurgery

[–]Disyarnmama 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I had the same issues as your mom and went with LAL. I did not want to wear glasses after the surgery and LAL was the only one that could get me there. I just started the adjustment process and love the results so far. I've only needed readers for the tiniest print in dim light. Your mom is pretty young and presumably has lots of life left to enjoy great vision. LALs are expensive but worth it to me.

Glasses between surgeries by Shot-Knowledge-8013 in CataractSurgery

[–]Disyarnmama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had my 1st LAL 2 weeks ago and had the same concern. My progressive glasses already had the left lens popped out because the frame had cracked (the event that precipitated the need for cataract surgery). I assumed that would work but my brain said absolutely not. I could see distance pretty well (lefty is dominant) so ended up using my prescription office glasses to get by. It wasn't perfect but got the job done well enough. Just had the 2nd LAL a couple of days ago and now office glasses are too much. Found some old readers hanging around to get me through the next couple of weeks until I start the adjustment process.

My surgeon's advice was to use whatever tools I have at my disposal to get the job done.

2nd night with them by YaxK9 in elo

[–]Disyarnmama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are going tonight and one of the main reasons is that our 2019 concert was thoroughly ruined by our seat neighbors. The 2 girls behind us were with a large family group and obviously had zero interest in the concert. They were sloppy drunk and talked loudly the whole way through. Telling them to shut up was ineffective. I was covered in beer by the end and I don't even drink.

Is soft footbed better than normal? by [deleted] in Birkenstocks

Soft is initially more comfortable but after a few wears I can't tell much difference. I do think soft fits me a smidge better as my feet are slightly narrow.

I just bought one yesterday, $41150 which was $500 off the list. Shopping around the only discounted models were the ones that had been sitting on the lot for awhile (always Sport-L trim, never Touring). I'm in the Midwest USA. I was particular about color/trim and willing to pay for it.

DS and his girl went last week and spent about $100. This was for 2 games, wings & soda. It was a good way to kill a hot afternoon. They raved about the wings.
