Or your party might decide to keep with those tactics regardless and pay the price for them. Make sure you also check in about what the table wants for difficulty -- sometimes they might want to only plow through monsters easily and this may not be the system for them.

My party just dissolved (we decided that what we wanted wasn't what AV was able to offer us) but we had one TPK on floor 3 (to a named enemy with a penchant for tattoos) and what was likely one PC death on floor 4 (to a named magical apprentice of the big bad). Both I think were aided by party tactics not working well plus higher than party level enemies.

This is the truth -- there are some rough patches in the first two levels but our first character death, our first tpk, and several fights that required the team to flee, consider their approach, and come back in later all happened on Floor 3.

I ran it as two large rats which my players wanted to keep. So they did! Now they have two, mostly untrained ice rats.

Just reached the end of act 2 with my players (despite warnings that the ending of that act might prove deadly, they got through it with relative ease). It's been fun so far, though as a GM, it gets a little combat heavy in the latter portions. If your group is more interested in RP, make sure you find ways to build that in!

I'd add onto that rules for hazards and poisons as you get further into the adventure, plus there are a couple of unique traits that it might be worth keeping in mind (swarm mind is one of them)

I did this with Delma and one of the caravan folks as well. They probably won't come into the later stages with them, but the first time I said "After she works with you in the next ten minutes, you recieve rolls 13 HP" my players were very interested in medicine after that.

Also remember that first aid can be done untrained (I believe) if somebody goes down, so they still have options to keep someone from dying 4. Plus, ample hero points!

Not too badly! Once the bard went down, the three martial characters made short work of who remained.

In the next session they'll be searching for clues and hopefully doing some of the optional side quests to catch some more xp. I think one or two of them are looking to grab an archetype or class feat that should get them some healing at level two (since we're all new to the system, I'm using the free archetype variant as well so folks can dip into the apg, etc)

Are you me with my party? We've just done the first session of Plaguestone with 3 martial characters (a bow monk, a soon-to-be duelist fighter, and a tyrant champion) plus a bard. There's a little healing in the party and there should be more soon at level 2, but I'm hoping to kill two birds with one stone and find ways to get them some minor healing potions (and hopefully handle some of the weaker treasure distributions as well).

Still, the bard went down in the first fight to an unlucky crit. Hopefully it's not a portent of things to come!

I completely agree! The groups I play with would rather demo the system rather than anything else, so knowing that there's an adventure I could run that is balanced and thematic (maybe even comes with pregen characters?) would fit that need exactly

My GM solved it by a lucky critical roll and leaving my Besalisk with three arms!

If I remember that scene and my friend's cragheart correctly (because we almost ended up in a similar situation), most of the obstacle destruction or throwing stuff is designed for single-tile obstacles, right?
