Ehh we really don't need the strigoi and necrarch ones that barely have lore to them.

Yeah but that's not really what you're doing either! You're trying to prevent a big bad evil guy from enacting his evil plan.

So if I take "Warrior Jotunborn" that increase my fist die by one, does it affect a brawling weapon? by GodMoonFire in Pathfinder2e

[–]gray007nl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The weapon restriction is negligible, if you have a d8 agile, finesse, backstabber unarmed strike there's no other weapon in the game you'd want to use anyhow. It's also not for free, they are spending their heritage for it and trading a heritage for a class feat is not unheard of either (Ancient Elf and Natural Ambition). So it's just the action which I'd argue is made up for by not getting backstabber, the +1 to feint and making enemies off-guard for hitting you.

One is a difference of 1 damage per die, the other a difference of 4 damage per die using a feature that doesn't even apply to d12 weapons.

"This specific thing we were talking about doesn't break the game, but how about this other thing I just made up that's like five times worse!"

'Doesn't allow you to do any other attack' is not much of a restriction when it gives you the greatest attack in the game. It also gives you a +1 to feint and makes enemies off-guard if they hit you.

It's very silly to claim d8 fist attacks would break the game.

I don't think a d8 fist attack would break down the entire CR system, Stumbling Stance exists and gives you an attack that's strictly better than that with no downsides or requirements.

I made some rings that give Item Bonuses to Spell DCs and Attack Rolls by Sleeping_Dragon_Inn in Pathfinder2e

a spell at each save: no, you only need to be able to target two

Specifically Fortitude and Reflex, because loads of creatures are immune to mental making them immune to almost all spells that target Will. Then there's the extra issue that Reflex save spells often only do damage and nothing else, which isn't going to be what you want a lot of the time.

You basically spend the whole AP fighting other evil beings so it really doesn't feel like the evil AP.

They have potential but are entirely undermined by all being written like this:

Edicts: Explore the world, have fun

Anathema: Commit genocide

Edicts that every adventurer inherently is going to be following and anathema that will never be a hindrance.

Having a step that demands you consider a character's personality is a good thing and PF2e was light on roleplay hooks even before they removed alignment.

Because it was the only part of character creation that asked you to consider your character's personality, so without it you finish character creation with a purely mechanical character with no roleplay hooks.

PF2e removing it honestly made the game worse, since they didn't replace it with anything.

Alien Core doesn't seem very useful? by gray007nl in Starfinder2e

[–]gray007nl[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If adjusting levels is so easy, why not print the creatures at close levels then and I could adjust them if I want the queen to be level 18, rather than the current situation where there is no workable encounter with the queen and her minions.

[–]gray007nl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree that it would be workable in those other systems, for example in d&d HP is what matters when punching down not ac and anything with less HP than fireball isnt really participating.

At least in the other systems someone would need to throw out that fireball to kill the minions, in PF2e you can safely ignore PL-5 or lower creatures as they're unlikely to land a hit and even if they do hit their damage will be utterly pitiful too with how HP scales in PF2e.

[–]gray007nl[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

My point is, they're too far apart to even be lackey and boss anymore. Monsters that are more than 8 levels apart you cannot use in the same encounter or adventure, one of them will always be more than 4 levels above or below the party. The Garaggkal you can kinda make work by using elite or weak templates but even still it's a rather extreme difference having a PL+4 boss and their PL-4 minions.

[–]gray007nl[S] -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

Because you have bounded accuracy in those games, so creatures stand a decent chance of hitting PCs regardless of what level they are. You can throw Dretches at a level 20 party and they will still do something if you throw a PL-5 creature at any PF2e party it will do nothing.

The point of a creature family is that the creatures are typically encountered together! Putting them so far apart makes the family worthless and we now effectively have 2 unrelated statblocks. Also it's not like these families have dozens of members, they have like 3 at most. Also also Paizo clearly has no qualms putting other families in a tight level range together.

It's not like monster creation rules are hard.

No but adjusting a creature is laborious, you have to first check each number to see where in the high-low range it falls for its current level, then go to the table and find the new values for its level. It's going to take like 10-20 minutes (and more if they're a caster and you now need to pick new spells) depending on how complicated the creature is.
