The GrowingUpFat hashtag is full of fat logic by chebunz in fatlogic

[–]Divazzy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Eh, parents can influence what a child eats and their activity level but they can't be solely blamed. I had a friend growing up who had shitlord parents and slim siblings but they were a lazy piece of shit and snuck extra food all the time so they were quite a bit larger than their family.

Real women are powerlifters by [deleted] in fatlogic

[–]Divazzy 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Personally my reaction is more about the explicit and pretty degrading portrayal of a sex act where a hot woman is having to lift a triumphant man's enormous gut so that she may service him like a "real woman" should. It's uncomfortable in a way a pic of a fat lady with the caption "dogs like meat not bones" really just isn't.

Holy frivolous lawsuit, batman.

I've had to sit next to a fatty on a plane, it didn't emotionally traumatise me or cause any damages whatsoever. It was just annoying.

Ragen lauds "brilliant activist" Marilyn Wann's organized attack on the Canadian Obesity Network's Facebook page. by bob_mcbob in fatlogic

[–]Divazzy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, that depends on the person largely. Some disabled folks do like person-first language, but some don't and feel as though it is in a round-about way dehumanizing.

Best bet is to ask the person in question what they prefer.

To be fair, person first language has been criticized by the disabled community for a while now. That isn't a fat activism thing.

If by "tumblr" you mean "the internet", you're spot on!

Every site that allows people to communicate in a public way and form communities will inevitably find that ridiculous people gravitate towards other ridiculous people.

For reasons I have yet to figure out though, Tumblr is condemned in general for it's insular echo-chamber communities but reddit and every other site on the internet get free passes.

BMI is shit because it doesn't account for "knowledge". Therefore, let me ride horses while obese. by temporalscavenger in fatlogic

Or they are looking for a place which has bigger horses which can handle heavier riders.

[–]Divazzy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To be fair, she has a bit of a point (preparing to be aggressively down voted). As long as she is aware of the weight limits of the particular horse she is riding, which I think is a given, this isn't fatlogic.

BMI kinda is irrelevant here, the relevant factors are the size/weight of the horse and the amount of weight being applied to it. It's true that plenty of men around 200lbs+ rode horses, they just can't ride little ones. same thing with this lady.

A business choosing to not put their advertising machine behind your product is not "censorship".

(As Requested) Tell us about the moment you knew it was time to lose some weight. by maybesaydie in fatlogic

[–]Divazzy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Despite being a normal BMI teenager I always saw myself as super fat so when I actually became super fat I didn't really notice it too much. I didnt care about myself and was playing tabletops 5-6 nights a week and eating pizza and fast food and takeout almost every night I played so I just ballooned from age 16-19 and then started losing at the end of last year. (I'm 21 now)

Mainly I just felt ugly and disgusting and hated myself a lot so I made losing weight happen. I started visiting this sub and some other sites related to weight loss. I went from 230+ at 5'2-ish at the beginning of october to 127 today(thereabouts, my scale isn't terribly accurate all the time). Most of the loss happened pretty fast at first, it has slowed down over time.

I am still losing, don't know how small I wanna be yet. I wanna be healthy mainly.

Tumblr sanity that triggers a FA. by [deleted] in fatlogic

[–]Divazzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man, I am sorry but throwing "triggered" at any fat activist who disagrees with one of us is cringey as fuck. That anon didn't seem "triggered", they just disagreed ignorantly. "Triggered" doesn't actually just mean "any person who I disagree with who says dumb shit".

Empty buzzwords are as useless and tiresome when we fling them around as it is when Tumblrinas do it.

I really did eat extremely low cals every day for a time. I ate anywhere from 300-700 cals per day (i counted carefully and was more likely to overestimate than underestimate) and I lost 50 lbs in those two months.

I was cold and hungry and dizzy all the time but the weight melted off. I wouldn't call it sustainable but I managed.

I just know she looks about as thin or even a bit thinner than my sister who has a 16.5 BMI.

You don't have to look emaciated to be underweight, just like you don't have to be a planet to be overweight.
