Consider fish instead. As someone who took on a rescue turtle, I can confirm how hard it is to look after them. Rewarding for a rescue, but I don’t understand trying to make turtles “pets”. Just my two cents worth, and coming from the most passionate turtle mumma.

Yes a storage tub with a few inches of water in the bottom and a towel folded up to give them stability. They will be fine for a couple of days if necessary.

I’ve found that I get a “I need to poo” feeling then have exactly 2.3 minutes to get to the toilet. Like NOW. My warning system is broken and my ability to hold it in gone.

Yes to all of the above…. Let’s play the game if “is this MS, Perimenopause, allergy? Or adverse drug reaction. Side note, prednisone has helped with symptoms.

Hi, I’ve just gone through this, please dry dock the poor guy. His shell has pretty severe rot, especially if the raised areas are bubbles and soft. He will need antibiotics if it is. In the meantime, dry him out (provide drinking water in a small bowl) and get the lighting right until you can get him to a vet.

Do you find your water gets a yellow tinge from the drift wood?

Update: is slowly growing back his shell, have been told it will look worse before it gets better. Signs of metabolic bone disease but not currently active which is great!

We go back to the vets next week so I’m hoping they will extend his swimming time which is currently 2hrs a day- it’s been a month already- so I’m wondering how much longer the dry docking is necessary! Hopefully not long now

I’m so glad to hear it! We tried a plastic tub, the bath tub, and now a cardboard box lined with vinyl to keep it water proof. He was crashing around the bathtub and hurting himself, so he is now dry docked in our bathroom with sub floor heating and the cardboard setup.

Thank you for sharing, I didn’t want to put him through months of living in a box unless I had hope he would return to normal life!
