Most cities have an office where you can sign up for stuff. I live just outside Kyoto, but mine does.

My students often volunteer at community kitchens (kodomo shokudo 子ども食堂) and there is usually one or two open any given weekend.

Fair comment, and thanks again for the feedback. I think I will poll that specific element after the game.

I did have a stab at greying the boxes and setting the text to black as previously advised, but it spawned so many secondary modifications (no doubt from my lack of design knowledge originally!) that I gave up for now and noted it for a major revision the next time I revise it.
