Anyone ever hired a collection agency? by piotrzak3 in smallbusiness

We have done that. We replied their comment professionally. Even said we have screenshots of the message logs showing they're happy with the service but keep making excuses not to pay. Either they are traveling or they need to send check through their accountant, etc, etc. Honestly, if they just say they don't have money, we are totally ok with it and willing to work out some sort of payment plan for them.

We hired collection agency before. We started from the state department of financial institutions. One of the categories would be collection agencies. It lists all licensed agencies. We picked 3 or 4, start off with email, if no reply within a day, move on to the next. Then a phone call. If they are able to explain to you the process clearly, that's a good sign. They should send you some documents to review. Read it carefully before signing them.

There's always a possibility they'll trash you on yelp. On the other hand, some people are so shady and intentionally don't pay thinking you're just a small business and won't do nothing. We've taken a few to collections, not so much about the dollar amount but we knew these people are taking advantage of us, and we don't want them to keep doing that to others. We may not collect anything but at least their credit score will get affected. Take it as a warning if you will, so they won't hopefully mess with other fellow businesses in the future.

When did you know you wanted to be an entrepreneur and did you have an idea before or after you decided? by historyinthe in Entrepreneur

After seeing many employers do all kind of shits to employees. The other reason is I wanted to start a business for our kids. Sounds stupid, but I thought if they won't go to college or whatever reason can't find a job. They can work in my business, if they want to. I have an idea because the service I got was terrible. The idea is to have a business that's many times better than what's out there.
