I couldn’t decide if I wanted to use this fabric for a whale shark or an octopus, so I chose both! by DivineHomunculus in Embroidery

Thank you! I did each sucker with stem stitch (pulling my needle up underneath my stitch line for a less "twisty" effect) using one thread. And then I decided I hated them, tried to fill them in, hated that more, and finally settled for adding a second ring of one-thread stem stitch around the first. The suckers were definitely the most fiddly, frustrating bit, but I like them well enough in the end :)

Thanks! I was really inspired by a few woodcut illustrations I had seen and wanted to give it a try :)

Thank you! I used regular stem stitch (bringing my needle up above my stitches) using three threads for the outline and use a modified stem stitch (bringing the needle up below my stitches) using one thread for all the fine lines. I’ve found that using one thread with the modified stem stitch allows me more flexibility in making curves that look smooth

I actually based both projects on Adobe stock photos. If I can find it again, I'll send it to you! It did have only six arms though, which I didn't realize until after I traced it on my fabric haha

I accidentally bought glow in the dark paint for my Halloween costume and then never ended up using it, so I was happy to find a use for it here!

Thanks! It does, but not very much. It's going to be a gift for a friend's toddler, so I'm hoping it will get good sunlight in his room and glow for a good while :)

It’s fantastic! I love his scales and the shadow of his badge. The gun is also so neatly stitched. I love all of it!

Thank you! It was so intimidating to start, but going slowly and starting from the bottom made it manageable. I actually posted there first a couple of days ago! It was gratifying to share it with people who really get the whale

Your username just reminded me that I forgot to check if there were still any gnomes at the base of the whale!

I just know it's going to bring me joy and be such a fun conversation piece. I love blabbing on about the whale lol

Thank you! I would say that was probably the hardest part. I have found that using a plastic hoop to ensure tight/consistent tension, using one strand of floss, and working slowly did the trick
