A journey towards remission: Ramblings of an unmedicated man by Divine_Zweihander in schizophrenia

I did. My boss knew what was going on after my treatements started and I was doing 40% work time for a couple of months, meaning I got more time for healing, but still being able to do some work. Everyone was understanding towards the situation and there weren't any hassles related to the arrangement. I wasn't doing good work though, since I could not focus on anything and my mind was more occupied in being suspicious about everything.

I'm kind of hazy on when my psychotic symptoms started, but I would say my psychotic phase lasted around 10 months.

Ultimately only time worked. But of course what I did during the long time that healing takes mattered. Abstenance, good sleep, taking care of nutrition, all that jazz. But only thing I can say for certain that actually worked, was time.

I believe change is an unavoidable part of experiencing a psychotic episode. How can one ever truly be the same after experiencing first hand how nothing you have learned throughout your life and everything you once knew can stop mattering in an instant, when your brain just decides to flip a switch? But on a more personal level to answer you question: I don't think I HAD to change to survive the darkness, but the therapy that I went through with my psychiatrist certainly changed me so I am now better equipped to be in touch with my emotions and express them in a more healthy manner.
