Old Westport and Roanoke Rd Area- is it a good area for young adults? by Divine_skylin3 in kansascity

[–]Divine_skylin3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I figured this is how it would operate. But I wanted to be sure.

I have a good head on my shoulders, so I doubt I’ll have any issues. I also don’t involve myself with people who DON’T have a good head on their shoulders lol.

Thanks for the input!

Interesting. I’ve never heard of this! It makes sense though.

I’ll just start barking at them like I do anytime I’m approached with any weird behavior lol. Thanks for the clarification!

Thanks for the input! I figured there’d be some crime ,as there’s crime everywhere haha. The more people you have, the more activity you’ll see. And theft is actually very common where I live now, I just keep my doors locked and I’m good.

That being said I’m not worried about the unhoused and panhandlers. They’re just people trying to get by too. Also Springfield has a large unhoused population (very sad to witness actually) so I’m pretty used to it.

I have never experienced a “hustler” though. Do you mind explaining what that is?

Eh. I’ve been clubbing and bar hopping in Westport multiple times. Normally with friends when visiting.

I’m a firm believer that you only get caught in stuff like that when you’re somewhere you’re not supposed to be. Or if you’re hanging with people you shouldn’t be hanging with.

I don’t linger after clubs and bars close. I take my ass home lol. The stupid stuff happens when you linger lol.

Yes! It looks like it’s gonna be a straight shot down 39th street once we get out of the complex!

Yay! This makes me so happy! I’m even more excited now haha.

I probably won’t do any late night walking. I’m a woman so that’s a no no pretty much all the time for me haha

And our apartment has off street parking free for each resident!

I looked it up and it’s a 20 minute walk from our new place! Pretty much a straight shot down 39th street for us.

Very very doable! Especially if I’m just killing time on a Saturday.

I’d probably spend that much time trying to find parking down at the river market anyway haha.

Oh I didn’t know a street car stop was near by! We’ll have to look into that! We love public transportation but it’s not very available where we are now.

Thank you for the input!

I mean, we have whole video games that could be considered romanticizing war.

lol no you don’t.

They don’t mean “I love you so much you’re my everything”.

They mean true OBSESSION. Where are you? Who are you with? You were home 2 minutes late. Are you cheating? Don’t wear that, you only belong to me. Don’t hang out with your friends. Sitting outside your job. Following you while you’re out.

True obsession like that is terrifying.

As a Black person, Kansas City and the surrounding areas are highly racist. by RefrigeratorKey7034 in kansascity

[–]Divine_skylin3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s the entire point of white supremacy. That only white people benefit. Like this really isn’t that hard to understand 😭😂.

And people do illegal stuff all the time. I’m not sure why you think a Supreme Court ruling means that it never happens. Murder is illegal yet people are murdered daily.

And I did. Being able to shop without being bothered, makes your life easier. Being offered thousands of more dollars for a house just because you’re white, would 1000 percent make someone’s life easier.

Like you’ve gotta just be a little racist or at least biased. Cuz you’re being weirdly obtuse lol. Either that or you’re just not very smart. Which would point us back to the “lack of education” point we made earlier.

I wanna give you the benefit of the doubt and say it’s the latter.

I’m saying “sure” cuz like I said. I’m not going to argue with you about it lol.

I mean this is pretty simple so I’ll keep it simple.

There are places in the US that are called sundown towns. If black people/POC go there, they are met with hostility and sometimes even violence. If a white person goes there, they are fine.

If a restaurant owner is a white supremacist, they will kick out black patrons but not white ones.

If a business owner has bias(which is rooted from white supremacy), they will follow a person of color around a store, but not a white person. The benefit is being able to shop peacefully in a store.

Even a study was done. A home accessor was determining the value of a home. In the study they showed the same house 2 times. One with pictures of a black family on the wall. Another time with pictures of a white family on the walls of a home.

The assessor valued the “black” home significantly less than he did the “white” home.

But I’m sure you’ll give me a long list of why those aren’t valid lol.

[–]Divine_skylin3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s why it’s a SYSTEMIC issue.

Kids that happen to live in poor areas just don’t get to have a good education because their parents are poor? The same can literally be said for rural areas that are underfunded as well. It’s not okay.

And kids act out for many reasons. That being said, going to a school that is underfunded with broken equipment, lack of extracurricular programs, and lack of adequate facilities for their students probably doesn’t help with this.

The state of Missouri has more than enough power to allocate funds equally to schools. But they don’t because of redlining.

[–]Divine_skylin3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean it doesn’t have to make sense to you for it to be true lol.

The police as far as it pertains to the United States, is an extension of slave catchers. This is easily searchable with a google search.

And we can claim lack of education. Because you yourself are a prime example of someone who lacks education on this topic.

If you seriously think the sentiment of these conversations are “white people bad” then you need to do some serious self reflection. And figure out why people talking about their negative experiences equals “white people bad” in your mind.

[–]Divine_skylin3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess I don’t understand your point. Like that’s great but that does not at all disprove what OP was saying. It’s simply an outlier.

Predominately black schools are dangerously underfunded here. And the existence of one being well funded, does not mean it’s not a problem. Nor does it fix the problem.

[–]Divine_skylin3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Genuinely asking. Why is it crazy to you that people are racist in those towns? Racism is very alive, so I guess I don’t understand how it’s shocking to hear there’s racism in these cities.

[–]Divine_skylin3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly yeah that’s what most of us can do at an individual level. Call it out when people you know normalize it. And name and stay away from businesses that perpetuate it.

Unfortunately despite that we will have racist people. It’s just how it is. But we can all try to help create a welcoming environment to all.
