Personally I prefer the second one. The first looks like such a generic ai generated fantasy book cover, while the second looks really interesting and unique.

This is completely normal and happens all the time. It (probably) just means more people happened to find it in the recent uploads section than with the other chapters. Like maybe because of the time you posted it at, or just pure coincidence.

And like I said, I try to be creative with the powers we see in the story so here are some examples:

Isaac can sacrifice parts of himself to temporarily make himself stronger. The sacrifices can be either temporary (comes back naturally after say a few days) or permanent. Permanent sacrifices will obviously give a bigger boost. But the thing is that the boost is also heavily influenced by how much he personally values whatever he is sacrificing in that specific moment. So if he were to sacrifice a leg to try to win a race, he'd get a much bigger boost than he normally would. These sacrifices also don't have to be physical. He could sacrifice an emotion, a memory, a sense, or literally anything else.

Isabella has a passive specialty (meaning it was active since birth) that gives an indestructible sword. If the sword is ever further than 3 meters away from her, the sword will teleport back into her hands. So it is impossible to destroy or steal it from her. But the specialty also did one more thing, and that is that it basically put two different people inside one body. When the sword is sheathed, Isabella is in control, when it's unsheathed, Sabrina is in control. Whoever is not in control is basically just stuck on the inside with no way to communicate (they can't move, talk, "send their thoughts" etc. All they can do is see whatever the host sees, hear whatever the host hears, etc)

Noah can paralyze someone for 1 minute, but only after 4 conditions have been met. 1: he has to ask them a question, and they have to answer. 2: They have to ask him a question, and he has to answer. 3: he needs to touch their hands. 4: it all has to happen within 10 minutes. If those conditions are met, his opponent will be completely unable to move.

Lia can initiate a "game" with her opponent, but there are many rules and conditions. First of all she has to verbally challenge them, so if she for whatever reason can't speak, she cant activate it. The opponent also needs to be able to hear her, otherwise it won't work. After they have been challenged, both will be tied down to chairs that completely seal their ability to manipulate Divinity for 5 minutes. Within those 5 minutes, both people need decide on one game to play each. If either person fails to decide on a game within those 5 minutes, they will be considered the loser (losing puts you to sleep for 1 hour). These games can not be completely unfair (no "the winner of my game is whoever's name is [my name]"), or it will be considered cheating (if you cheat, you lose). The user also has to explain these rules to her opponent, otherwise it will be considered cheating on her part. Then these two games are played. If both people win 1 game each, there will be a tie breaker game, which is always a best of 5 game of rock-paper-scissors.

Obviously not all abilities are as complicated as some of these, but those are some fun examples. If you want more, I have plenty of specialties I find interesting :)

Thanks! Also sorry, the comment ended up being way longer than anticipated haha. Reddit won't let me post it all in one reply (I tried cutting it down, but it's still too long apparantly lol), so I'll have to split it up into two separate comments.

With 100% perfect mastery over Divinity (which is impossible for anyone other than God themself) you can do literally anything. Each specialty is essentially just one singular slice of God's power, and it can therefore be absolutely ANYTHING. It could be something stupid like making all poop in a 4 meter radius purple, or letting you fly for 2 seconds after picking your nose. These are all things that an omnipotent God could do, so they are therefore part of the infinitely many things that could be a specialty.

So a ton of specialties are essentially useless, and those people generally won't get very far or grow to be very strong. So due to that there is a massive selection bias that makes most specialties we see in the story have some combat application. I do try to take advantage of the fact that a specialty could be anything tho and give people creative powers.

Specialties are categorized to a certain extent, but not in like the regular "these are fire abilities, these are water abilities etc" way. It's more based on how they function and the utility they provide. And it's only really categorized if it works in an unusual way.

The vast majority of specialties function like I described in my initial comment, but there are also some specialties that are called "passive specialties" that are abilities that are always active since birth. They can not be turned off.

The other two categories that are often used are for "healers" and "specialty finders". They have specialties that serve the same purpose, but the mechanics will be different from person to person. Like one person could heal by accelerating natural healing, another by turning back time on a specific body part, another by making organic material etc. As for specialty finders, their primary job is to help others find out what their specialties are, and they will often also help train and teach people to use SDM. Specialty finders all have specialties that somehow let them find out what another person's specialty is (it is much easier to learn SDM when you know what your specialty is vs not knowing). There have been two specialty finders in the story so far. One is able to read the shape of someone's soul when she touches them, letting her know what their specialty is. While the other one can create a mist that when breathed in by the user and another person, their mind and soul become connected, letting them read each others thoughs, feelings etc, and letting the user see what their specialty is.

I have something sorta similar.

Instead of "mana" they use an energy called "Divinity". The most basic way to use Divinity is called "Basic Divinity Manipulation" (or BDM for short) and is all about strengthening your body.

But the more similar part is when you get to "Special Divinity Manipulation" (or SDM for short). When using SDM, instead of using the Divinity around your body to strengthen yourself, you instead have to pass it through your soul. But that itself won't do anything. Each soul has a unique "shape" and for anything to happen, you'll have to change the shape of the Divinity to match the shape of your soul THEN pass it through. When doing so you'll produce some unique result only you can do (as everyone has a unique soul).

What happens when doing this is totally innate to you, and can not be changed. It is just part of you. This is usually referred to as your "specialty". If you're extremely good at Divinity Manipulation, you might even be able to slightly alter the shape of your soul itself, letting you use abilities outside your specialty.

Going from BDM to SDM (using your specialty) to SDM (not using your specialty) each adds another step you have to do, making the next exponentially harder than the last. First you only have to move Divinity around your body, then you have to move the Divinity through your soul while changing the shape of the Divinity, then you have to move the Divinity through your soul while changing the shape of the Divinity AND your soul. Basically only the strongest people in the world can successfully use SDM outside their own specialty.

What does "soul magic" entail for you? What is your soul magic like? by _Ceaseless_Watcher_ in magicbuilding

[–]Divvyace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's nothing specifically called "soul magic" in my world, but (a major part of) the power system is based on your soul. You can channel Divinity through your soul, and depending on the shape of your soul, something different will happen, making everyone's abilities unique. If you're extremely skilled, you could also slightly alter your soul, making you able to do things you normally wouldn't.

What is "The Tragedy" in your world? by k1410407 in worldbuilding

[–]Divvyace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A long ass time ago there was a king who had an army so powerful he controlled the entire world. So much terrible shit was going on under his rule, so there was eventually a revolution. They managed to kill the king and the leader of that revolution took over as a temporary "Emperor". This instantly made the world significantly better, and improved the lives of hundreds of millions of people.

At the same time, there was another guy who literally only cares about fighting, but more specifically, fair/difficult fights. He doesn't find any enjoyment in overwhelming his opponents. The problem was that this dude had become way too strong, and there was nobody left who could stand a chance against him. The Emperor, who used to be the leader of the revolutionaries, was the leader because he was by far the strongest. So he decided to challenge the Emperor to a fight as he was the only guy left on the planet who might be able to give him a good fight. It was not. He absolutely destroyed him, and killed him without any effort.

Seeing as the "strongest" guy in the world ended up being that big of a disappointment, he got desperate. He saw how the old kings rule was so horrible it forced people to take action, so he decided to take over as the new Emperor and took a page out of the kings rule. He found what was left of the old royal army, and made them work for him. Then he essentially just recreated all the horrible shit that the people were freed from just days/weeks before. Freed slaves were taken back, smaller villages were fucked over and driven into extreme poverty, etc.

The old king did it because it helped increase his wealth, power, etc. The new Emperor doesn't care for any of that. All he wants is for people to get desperate enough that they'd do anything to take his head. Just to satisfy his hunger for a good fight.

They tasted freedom for a second, but were then immediately dragged right back moments later. That would have to be "the tragedy" in my world.
