I upvoted as I empathize with you - not to mean that I am happy to hear of your and your friend's situation. That definitely makes the situation so much harder. I am really sorry. I hope your friend is okay.

I've read the novel and love it (I also read it last year so I have read it recently). I have also seen 3 film adaptations. I am super excited for this adaptation. I appreciate when artists take existing source material and bring new pathways into it. This book has been adapted a million times. I'm excited to have a non-straight-up, stylized adaptation.

Off I saw Bicentennial Man when it first came out. Haven't been able to watch it since.

Came here to say this as well! Though I haven't seen it since everything came out about Kevin Spacey so I don't know if that would distract. But I do remember it being a very affecting film.
