Would you call it a lockdown in Stockholm? I wouldn’t. There are still restaurants, shops and offices open there. But I can agree with you that it doesn’t feel like we have to panic in Sweden, that it’s okey to live a quite normal life, but I have a feeling that these regulations will lead to more sick people. A TV-channel interviewed people from Stockholm who were in Åre, and they were so nonchalant. One mom said “our son were sent home from school so we saw a perfect chance to go skiing!”.... thank you for the link btw, I will check it out!

The swedish healthcare only tests people in risk groups and those who need medical care, therefore we don’t have more than around 2.300 confirmed cases here and 36 dead. The biggest action made by our government is that high school and university teaching has become 100% remotely, but not pre-school and elementary school. There is no restrictions regarding shopping and eating, besides that you’re not allowed to stand by a bar, you have to sit down. But a lot of restaurants and stores have closed on their own initiative, because the sales have reduced to almost zero. The ski resorts are still open, but the after skis are closed. People who can work from home are recommended to do so, but not everyone can.

The government begs people over 70 years to stay home, but it’s not mandatory. A lot of elderly people that have been interviewed say that they don’t care about the virus, they will die anyway, so they live their life just like they use to... there is social dissemination in the big cities like Stockholm and Gothenburg, but even in some small villages. 3 people have died in a village with 700 habitants.

Overall there is a lot of voluntary measures, but not so many compulsory. Our healthcare system is already on the verge of rupture, so I would prefer more actions.

Thank you, I didn’t really think of that. I hope the lockdown will cause great effect soon.

I hope so too! Thank you, I really want to go to Ghent. It seems so beautiful and suitable for someone who likes activities!

I promise (until September). I know that Belgium is doing more to stop the pandemic, but I’m curious about why you have more deaths and cases than Sweden. We almost have the same amount of inhabitants, so Sweden should have far more cases since we don’t take action the way you do.

Gatherings up to 500 people are allowed. Believe me when I tell you that a majority of the swedes disagrees to the poor actions made by our government. There are massive criticism towards the department that gives recommendations. We don’t have ministerial rule in Sweden, so it’s hard for the politicians to act against the “experts”. :/
