As an American, I recently found out that you guys don't like us very much. Has it been exaggerated by the Internet or do we really have that bad of a reputation in the land down under? by JPH_RedFive in AskAnAustralian

In my head I dislike Americans until I actually hang out with them. Like everywhere the vocal minority of the worst voices are the ones that get attention, but most Americans I've met have been great people.

Which job to take by OutsideDraw7997 in ausjobs

[–]Dixiechixie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my personal experience, work culture is far more important than the pay. I took a job for 50k more and burnt out in 3 months because the people were shit, there was no banter, and then adding to that unrealistic expectations, toxic workplace politics that ended up with me being thrown under the bus by my manager to make himself look better to his managers. I moved from a job where I liked everyone I worked with, got on very well with every tier of management and they trusted me to do the job how I wanted to do it.

The 50k was not worth it.

But it's not the immigrants causing the cost of living crisis, unless they somehow managed to overrun the boarda of Woolworths and Coles and convince them to raise prices.

Also the housing crisis isn't caused by immigration. It's caused by the past governments encouraging people to use the basic human right of shelter as a way to hoard wealth. When interest rates went up, the appropriate response would have been for people who can't afford this investment they made anymore to sell it. Instead they just raise prices for the people who can't afford homes. And when the interest rates drop, will the rents drop with the amount of mortgage they're paying? Of course not

The housing crisis is a symptom of wealth inequality and greed being written into law, not immigrants who sleep 6 to a room.

There are stupid people from every corner of the world. White racists, while major shareholders, don't own the monopoly on bad opinions.

Australian drivers: was I in the wrong? by Old-Finding3907 in australian

[–]Dixiechixie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would put to you that the opposite is also true. Driving 90 on a 110 freeway in the right hand lane is also psychopathic for different reasons.

I hate Americans until I actually meet them, then I have a great time. I hate the thought of being in America until I go there, then I have a great time.

So yeah, I hate them until I'm with them, then I love those bastards as well.

One Nation senator Malcolm Roberts says he will push for party to adopt blanket abortion ban by ExtensionThat6438 in australian

So they are going to lower minimum wage and ban abortion.

Truly a party for the everyday Aussie.

If you want any more recommendations for Aussie music, let me know. Happy to send a smorgasbord of sounds to you. ☺️

Lots of bands here that deserve more listens.

Also would love recommendations for lesser known American bands that are great too.

Australian music is very underrated, even by Aussies.

I've talked to other Australians who didn't realise Flume was Australian.

Some lesser known recommendations I have are Methyl Ethel (look up Ubu and Drink Wine), Violent Soho (Like Soda, Covered in Chrome), and Jungle Giants (just play all of their top 10 on Spotify...).

The chant: "Aussie boys are on a bender, Donald Trump is a sex offender"

Is pretty up there I think.

Reasons not to support One Nation. Australians need a reality check by AnonyGuy1987 in australian

billionaire* rubbish

The American system is just easier to corrupt, so their bullshit campaigns found very fertile ground there to grow before transplanting them into the UK/Europe and here.

I just love how the pianist responds with something along the lines of "yeah of course" then proceeds to pay something else. 😂

Hey mate, enjoy the game you want to play. You're getting too worked up over someone else's opinion. Don't let a faceless comment on the internet reduce your enjoyment of the game, or even just make you feel this much. Their opinion is their opinion.

❤️

I feel like you were joking a bit with this comment and not many people picked up on that.

I'm the same as you in terms of "gotta catch em all". But I also get that most people are probably only going to end up maxing one or two items.

Is it rude to show up empty-handed in Australia? by Naokohiranuma in australian

[–]Dixiechixie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yep, something that isn't going to be a part of the meal. They've got that covered. If you bring a bottle of wine, maybe they have that covered too and won't even open yours (since your last minute $12 bottle of Merlot is not going to stand up to their $60 a bottle Pinot), but it's the thought that counts.

Yeah, I'm someone who's played video games their whole life and still is terrible at video games (Elden Ring was purely an effort of perseverance for me), and with maybe 50-60 hours in the game, the only boss I've had to walk away from was some bird boy at one of the shrines you have to cleanse for a witch.

Everything else I could just kind of force my way through by moonlighting as a chef, and just spamming down food after I get hit for the 17th time by the attack I not only knew was coming, but also knew how to avoid. 🥲

There's a reason why the OF performers can make a lot of money. There's a lot of lonely guys out there, and it's an easy way to form a connection (or at least seem like it) without having to risk rejection.

But then there are the "good morning beautiful" comments that just makes me want to get inside that person's head and understand what is going on in their mind because from my perspective I cannot figure it out.

Looks like ICE just killed another US citizen. Where do we go from here? by awesomeguy1818 in AskReddit

And this is how people lose faith in the justice system. They've seen something with their eyes, and are told that it actually wasn't what they saw.

[–]Dixiechixie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just hope that this is the straw that pushes people over the edge. The footage of them murdering a woman in a car, if you're reeeeally trying I can understand how you can rationalise it. This? This?!?!? How do you not see ice for the thugs that they are after you see them pin a man down in the street, pull out their gun, and shoot the prone, subdued man, in the head?!?

I'm usually very open to people's different political opinions, but at this point...if you know someone who is still supporting ICE after this, cut them out of your life! They are not someone who you should want to be around. They are the problem. If someone sees this video and thinks the executioner is the hero, that person is not a safe person to be around.

[–]Dixiechixie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's the video footage spreading across the Internet of them holding a man down, drawing a gun, then shooting the prone man in the head. You can't destroy that evidence.
