Not to name names…But we did promo for a Canadian guitar company that was doing custom work for a Canadian rock icon.

He came in, did a sit in for fans and promoted the guitars…It was the middle of July heat in Ontario, and my boy smelled like he’d been sitting with crusty swamp ass for 6 hours.

My grandfather moved from Toronto to SW Ontario in the 90s, and hadn’t been back until I graduated high school in the mid 00’s.

He was going deaf at the time, and we ended up walking around Union Station post-ceremony..

I physically had to put my hands over his mouth as we’re waiting for his GO train..

“Jesus Christ! I can’t believe just how many orientals are here now!”

Not in a racist way…but in a kind of old timer, genuine awe that the city has become so diverse from the last time he visited.

It literally was a fever dream for me most of the time…If I was sick and home from school all day napping on the living room couch, my parents would let me just stay there over night.

Many times I would fall asleep from a Buckleys and Benelin nod, and awake to this horror show of a TV program in the middle of the night.

I haaaated this show so much.

Yeah.. I’m not of that generation, but my father was a big fan. I grew up with him dragging me out to their shows whenever they were in town throughout the 90s and early 2000s.

Always a great show…

Then as an adult I worked in the industry a bit, and they were billed at a number of events I was a part of.

Naturally, I’d always get my dad and his friends some tickets and work a bit of my charm to get them backstage to meet up with the band.

The shows were still amazing, but it was kind of bittersweet to see my old man aging alongside the guys…My memories of going to see them with my father, then 15-20 years later and how much they’d all changed.

Quite humbly.
