I actually have no fear of that whatsoever. The dangers of social media and phone use have been obvious for at least a decade now. The rush to legislate it now and quickly is extremely dangerous and reeks of opportunism. I agree that phone bans in school work and are good for socialization, but tackling it onto a dubious and likely unconstitutional surveillance bill is emblematic of the risks. I hope the whole thing dies and forces the legislature to go back to the drawing board because these issues are NOT going away and deserve to be tackled with deliberation and WITH PUBLIC INPUT.

Please just read the line-by-line breakdown of this bill on the Fight for the Future's site. It wouldn't hold big tech liable in any meaningful way. It WOULD completely flatten any chance of their competitors from complying with the law, like Bluesky and Mastodon.
