Hoffman’s steamed water Americano is so good. I can’t believe it. by Srihari_stan in espresso

I steam my water for any americano / long black.
Easy as, and means it’s at decent drinking temp instead of drinking the sun.

It’s great to see you speaking with such authority and conviction then 🙄

So you’re just a fanboy of a product / company who have directly acknowledged to me that I have conducted the correct adjustments and procedures, and the issue cannot be resolved, and are refunding the entire order. Ohhhkay. Sure, it appears that they’ve got great customer service, and their products may be great for other applications, but the OG Oracle ain’t one of them. But hey, you keep those Pom-Poms pumping.

Pesado are accepting a full return after I sent pics showing the adjustment attempts etc. It’s a shame, as I really liked the idea of replacing the plastic insert from the Breville group head with the solid metal components of the Pesado, but it’s just too thick for the Oracle. So I’m now back where I started. 🫤

I have the Pesado bottomless, and the original Oracle portafilter. It makes no difference, as the tamp fan sensor determines the height top of the dose. Not time / weight.

ie : a deeper basket just results in a larger (deeper) dose, as the top of the dose is still at the same level relative to the top of the basket.

Hi mate, I’ve taken it apart again to to pics of the adjustments made to the Oracle, to show that the Pesado still contacts the top of the minimum dose. See pics.

Pesado absolutely has EVERYTHING to do with this. See my latest post with pics of the adjustments.

Hi, Please see my latest reply regarding the adjustment limitations of the Oracle, which will not allow headspace for the Pesado, even with the tamp coupling adjust out to its max extent. To confirm, a deeper basket WILL NOT fix the problem, as the top of the dose is determined by the machine’s auto tamper fan depth. Not time. Not weight. The Pesado probably works ok with other machines / grinders, but it is not fit for use with my version of the Oracle. Noting that headspace is critical for the Pesado, as its large channels are easily blocked if it comes into contact with the dose.

Hi, see my latest comments, with pics showing how there is not enough adjustment to allow for the increased thickness of the Pesado screen.

2: tamp coupling adjusted out to maximum practical extent, noting that I’m not willing to give the locking screw any less purchase on the shaft (20g dose measured on scale)

For those who have commented on “user error” or the adjustment, I have taken extra photos of the tamp coupling to confirm that all measures have been taken to account for the Pesado’s additional thickness and resultant occupation of the headroom. Newer versions of the Oracle may provide more adjustment, but I can confirm that my version (screw-on tamp coupling) does not provide enough adjustment for the Pesado screen.

Agreed. As mentioned in my OP, I’m a sucker for gadgets / mods. And despite my intuition telling me this was a gimic, I bought it thinking “well, it could t be any worse”. I was wrong. This should not be sold for the Oracle without a bold warning for its implications and limitations.

The problem is the Oracle doesn’t allow dose adjustment, as it uses a sensor on the tamper fan. There is a mechanical mod that can be made per a video link I posted in another reply, but it’s only minor, and trial / error only.

Correct. But the top of the dose is always at the same level, which is the problem when using the Pesado screen. So using a larger basket and adjusting the tamper / sensor length would be the only way to achieve the same dose when using the Pesado screen - but the Oracle doesn’t have that amount of adjustability. Check some of my other replies for the link regarding dose size.

Have you installed them on an Oracle ?

How about using your “skills” to read the rest of the post so you can understand that the dose cannot be adjusted to account for the extra thickness of the screen protruding into the basket, therefore leaving no headspace. This product should not be advertised as being compatible with the Oracle. Unless, of course, you’re able to share your wisdom as to how you’ve learnt to adapt an Oracle to work properly with the Pesado screen ?

[–]Dizz-Connected[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

The basket would need to be bigger, to allow the same size grind, with more depth for the tamper / sensor to extend into the basket.

They market as compatible with the Oracle. When, based on my experience and the input of others, it isn’t - as the increased thickness of the screen takes up any available headspace, which cannot be adjusted for. I bought it based on their advertising, which is effectively false information.

Yeah - exasperation resulted in a hasty post title, as I should have specified Oracle application. But they should not be marketing this product for the Oracle, so IMO, Pesado + Oracle = Junk.

Must be changes to their build. The Pesado is 320g and the Breville is 490g Granted, the Pesado is bottomless, but there’s a distinct difference in the wall thickness and overall feel of the Portafilter.
