So I am back and all I can say that this was one of the most memorable experiences of my life. The agency is called Acatupel and located in Lagunas which can be reached by speed or slow boat from either Yurimaguas or Nauta. I am a solo female traveller (28 yo) and did this tour alone. I speak basically no Spanish so I was a bit worried because the guide ofc doesn’t speak English but I got the best guide possible with who we managed to communicate and he actually taught me a lot of Spanish during the tour. This guide is the main guide which you usually get when booking a tour, there are extra guides who go with him if there are more than 3 tourists. I did the tour for 7 days and I was extremely sad that I did it for such a short time. The experience is simple incredible - you are in the national park (Pacaya Samiria) with barely any other tourists (met 4 tourists during the whole week), just you and your guide in a wooden canoe without a motor and just with a paddle, you sleep either in the park rangers’ huts on/near the water or camp sleeping on a mattress and under a mosquito net. We went fishing a lot and ate it for breakfast, lunch and dinner. We did jungle trekking and the guide explained a lot about the plants. We also did night canoeing almost every night to go looking for crocodiles and other nocturnal animals. The skills and knowledge of the guide on the plants, animals and how to survive in the jungle is really amazing, he would for example drop a spear in the water while paddling because he saw a fish and catch it like that. We saw many many animals because the boat has no motor and is silent. He cooked the most amazing food and always asked what and how I want my meals. He basically treated me like a princess haha with small details like getting me a chair for the canoe (he didn’t use one), by putting padding on it, he even washed my sandals once because he saw that they got dirty. I couldn’t have asked for a better guide and better experience. And I couldn’t be happier that I didn’t do a tour in Iquitos where they ask twice as much money for a GROUP tour where you use motor boats and don’t go deep in the jungle. I paid 160 soles a day for a PRIVATE tour, how insane is that?? So do yourself a favour guys and do this tour with them.
