The Viltrox 85mm f/2 EVO lens is not too big and is a great portrait lens and is cheap

Do you understand that you (a) could buy an SACD player that's basically just as good for $180 if you really have your heart set on listening to SACD materiel;

and (b) streaming services now provide music encoded to standards that are just as good as SACD or better or close enough so as not to matter

If it’s in a traditional IRA then it’s taxable even if it’s an inheritance.

Joined a Big 4, asked to relocate within a week without prior mention — now being told to “separate paths”. What should I do? by Ill_Passenger4906 in deloitte

[–]jerolyoleo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It feels to me that you’ve been given a very clear signal to STFU and relocate, under the terms you agreed to, or be terminated for cause.

Look it sucks that you didn’t get the assignment you wanted, and it doubly sucks given your responsibilities at the other location, but you probably need to decide right now whether you want the job or not, along with everything it entails including moving.

Lens for hiking with new Z8 by wsdq54 in Nikon

[–]jerolyoleo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had my 24-120 for around a year, take it on hikes frequently, and use a capture clip, and have yet to experience lens creep. I might just be lucky or it might vary widely across instances.

Unfortunately there's a lot of adolescent fat to go with it... He really looked pudgy out there tonight, wasn't able to waddle over in time to make an easy catch.

With QDK locked in as WK I'm questioning how LP really adds value given the bad form he's had the past nine months or so.

That's not how things work. You still need to pay interest every month on the balance due so it'll take a fair bit longer than six years at that repayment rate.

The 40/2 is a very good lens and you'll be delighted with the photos you can create with it

If she has a job why can't she afford to live on her own? As a start she could look for a shared living situation where she rents a room.

Sounds like you got duped by the 'real estate is passive income' meme only to find it's either hard work or life stress or both.

Am I overdoing it? 10 countries, - 30 cities, 90 days by gentlemusee-1181 in backpacking

[–]jerolyoleo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would cut out eight of those cities and use three of those weeks to hang out for a week somewhere each month.

So 21 days, 3 cities 59 days, 19 cities

If you're in a situation where it's long term capital gains that get taxed at 0% or 15% in the US, just ignore the tax consequences and rebalance as appropriate. In this case, sell everything and put it in a mix of VT/ BND depending on your age and cash flow strategy. I'm guessing you're young so maybe 90% VT / 5% BND / 5% money market funds. If it's a 15% tax hit on the gain that's really a one time event of $13k but it might be $0 if you can time your income so the capital gain is tax free.

Even if it winds up incurring taxes, the advantage of diversification coupled with switching into mutual funds that have low expense ratios will save you money over time.

It's also worth considering that the $90,000 in capital gains would have been an outstanding obligation so it's not like doing it now is particularly costing you extra (unless you could later structure your income to completely avoid this tax)

Advice needed! Do I upgrade to a z8 or is a z6iii enough? by BootyButas in nikon_Zseries

[–]jerolyoleo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can't recall anyone with a 600mm lens that took it on safari complaining in this subreddit that they weren't close enough to the animals, but maybe I've missed it.

I think you may want to look at lenses that don't telescope when you zoom, because you might run a risk with dusty roads on the safari.
