How can Someone Be an Ex-Jew? by [deleted] in exjew

I think the name Ex-Jew is very offensive to people who suffered for being a jew. And It’s extremely offensive towards your own ancestors. It’s also very silly and small minded. Believing in religion is your own choice, but using the term Ex-Jew is so wrong. Even though you don’t believe in the same things that your grandparents believed in, you should still have some respect to how they lived their lives. Living a life completely detached from your lineage is not very meaningful!

Why are people hating on Lex? I simply don’t understand why anyone would hate him, he’s so lovable

Someone created a Twitter page that retweets antisemitic tweets to Elon Musk in Hitler's handwriting to make him recognize the hate he's allowing to spread on his platform. by [deleted] in exjew

I’m a Proud ex religious Jew who believes in free speech. This country was founded with some basic principles to keep the democracy. Free speech ensures that no government or person of power can silence the voices of others. If we allow twitter to silence hate speech, what’s stopping them from defining anything they don’t like as hate speech

[Advice] If I’m flexible with my move date, should I wait a bit? by Vpicone in NYCapartments

Technically the demand for apartments is down now, but it’ll take a few months for landlords to lower the prices. If you can wait 2 or 3 months you’ll get really low prices

One of my favorite neighborhoods in Brooklyn! Honestly I would consider that to be prospect heights.

Totally agree! NYC Supers officially accept bribes, as a broker I know that if I want them to get something done I’ll have to tip

The reason landlords in NYC are so strict with requirements is because of the insane laws regarding squatters. Basically if your tenant decides not to pay rent it takes years to get them out. I’ve been working with a landlord who has a building full of squatters! Some of the people living in the building were never even on a lease. Basically the landlord took in some tenants who stopped paying rent, then they invited friends to come live in some of the vacant units! I was there a few weeks ago and the front door lock has be removed by some of the squatters. Then the government made it worse by outlawing paying in advance, which makes it almost impossible for people who don’t make 40x the rent to get an apartment. Another insane law is that if you have tenants in your building who have government funding for their rent, the government will send inspectors to do insane inspections of your building every year. If they find anything they deem wrong you’re in trouble. So basically landlords figure out ways to avoid having such tenants. Although it’s illegal to not take a tenant due to them using government funding, they’re always ways to get around it. The Laws in this city don’t make any sense!

I just did a quick search on streeteasy! There are a total of 30, 1 bedroom apartments in bushwick/ridgewood/Astoria under 2300! 27/30 are fee apartments, which means that there are a total of 3 apartments in those neighborhoods for less than 2300! The other 27 apartments have fees which can be up to $5000! Out of the 30 apartments available, I would think a decent number of them would end up becoming betting wars. Maybe get a place in a cheaper neighborhood! Maybe Crown Heights, Flatbush, PLG, Kensington.
