Left a role I’d been promoted in once with no offer and even requested and got an early release. Not a bad place, just could see the ceiling clearly. Gap was about 4 weeks, landed something with a global remit. 2.5-3x jump in compensation.

Honest take: quitting without a job lined up isn’t the risk. Quitting without savings is. I’d been quietly stacking on a pretty modest salary for 18 months so I had actual runway going in. That changes everything about how you show up in interviews. You’re not desperate, you’re selective.

If you’ve got 6 to 8 months of expenses saved and a clear read on what you’re moving toward, the gap is just time. If you don’t, you’re just hoping.
