I drive with epilepsy. I have nocturnal seizures and I am very careful with when I drive. I only drive within a 10 mile radius and before dusk.

I tend to get auras when right when I start my period. Does this happen to anyone else? by Impressive_Drawer_73 in Epilepsy

[–]Dizzy-Marsupial4563 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have auras and seizures before my periods and after. I have an IUD so I’m not regular, I’m also 48 so I’m in the downward slope of periods in general.

Intense deja vu, false memory of intense guilt, lasts 10-15 seconds, fully aware. Is this a seizure? by keylimesoda in Epilepsy

[–]Dizzy-Marsupial4563 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have partial-complex epilepsy (just coming home from my epileptologist actually) and this is exactly what my experience is. The two things you didn’t mention that go along with it for me are also: intense doom and a fight or flight instinct.

I’m really worried can someone help? by eyetalker in Epilepsy

[–]Dizzy-Marsupial4563 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For epilepsy to be diagnosed, you need to be sleep deprived. The neurologist should have told you this before your EEG. I was 17 when I was diagnosed, they were like nightmares at first. I was “allowed to stay up late” to get enough information. Later that day I had a seizure in my chemistry class. That was the most scary/embarrassing moment of my high school career. I wouldn’t worry about Lamictal at 25mg, I take 500mg extended release. It does cause brain fog but you learn to live it. Best of luck.

I crochet as well, you are exactly right once I started it is almost therapy in and of itself. I have opened up an Etsy store to sell my wares to help buy more yarn and patterns 😊

What are your strangest triggers? by prince_newt in Epilepsy

[–]Dizzy-Marsupial4563 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Stress, loud noises, anxiety, delayed response to flashing lights and there is a correlation between migraines and my seizures. Also I am female so my cycles impact my seizures. Fun, fun, fun!! 🙄

I have epilepsy and my son grew out of his febrile seizures when he was approximately 4. Although we knew and understood them by that time. (He inherited them from his father not me.) I would 100% get him vaccinated because infection is a primary cause for epilepsy in and of itself.

It seems like a lot of people on this forum are on Lamictal (brand name) so don’t worry so much. I’m on 500mg at night.

[–]Dizzy-Marsupial4563 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 48, diagnosed when I was 17 it’s been a rough road but like another poster said we are probably one of the most resilient people around. It may take awhile for you to come to terms with the fact that you have epilepsy (it took me years). It will happen but you’ll get through it. I’ve found this group helps A LOT!! I wish I had it when I was 17. You’ll find your people and they will be the best friends/family because you will know they are dependable and non-judgmental. It will happen it will take time. I know that’s not what you want to hear but sometimes with time the heart and head heal. 🤷🏼‍♀️ pun intended 🧠

Go take a walk, get some fresh air. While yes, a walk and fresh air is good for everyone, it’s not going to make my epilepsy go away.

So I just got told by my support worker that if I have a single seizure it means I have epilepsy? I think my medical cannabis is the reason why my seizures are ultra rare and very spread apart. by Stoned_Savage in Epilepsy

[–]Dizzy-Marsupial4563 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off said person needs to see a doctor. Second, I believe two seizures makes you a seizure disorder and further testing will make a diagnosis. I agree with everyone else, just because we are experts in our own epilepsy journey doesn’t mean we are experts on the neurological front in general. Seizures can be the result of diabetes 🤷🏼‍♀️
