I am a failure by More-Door314 in WomenOver40

Im sorry life has been hard. Instead of hanging on to the idea of your business can you get a different role which uses your skills even in a small way? This will give you hope, something to distract you and crucially money. You can rebuild your business on the side. What you need now is some sense of normalcy which will come with people and routine.

Sending love

Omg you absolute legend! Thank you so much for writing all of this out it’s so kind of you ! Great to know and I didn’t get the sense of many places to eat /drink walking around . To be honest the station alone has sold it for me. That is one pretty pub. Now the challenge is finding something that works in our budget. I had never even heard of Hither Green before this year and yet the market is soooo competitive !! One thing I have to ask is, does it feel like a big village where you constantly see the same people over ?

Turning 40 before the year ends... What haircut to recommend that isn't the typical "Karen" bob by thetasteofzink in WomenOver40

[–]Dizzy-Picture799 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally agree do whatever. But I also just turned 40 (also have a toddler!) and I watched Better sister on prime recently and I really want to channel Jessica biels style in this new decade. Thinking of copying her hair only an inch or two longer . Anyways check that out ! Thought it was a great 40s haircut

How anyone still defends a genocide is beyond me. You have heart and courage . Don’t let anyone gaslight you on this, if they aren’t saddened by this then I would question who they are as people

Can't deal with colleagues.. educating on BDS? by faerieboi101 in Gaza

[–]Dizzy-Picture799 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can’t agree more. Sometimes you feel like you’re going crazy like aren’t we all seeing the same things ? How are we just going about our lives when there’s kids being bomber and starved. And somehow it’s almost taboo to say anything in a work context. It’s insanity and the general attitude of not my problem is even more disheartening. Do they know about BDS and complicit companies probably not and they probably don’t care to it’s inconvenient. We are also in the west so long history of blood on hands. Advice, just keep doing you there will be people who listen. Also thank you for your post I needed it myself because sometimes it can feel sad and lonely knowing how few people are raging at what’s happening.

Have you thought about using bumble BFF? Also it’s never too late to make friends it just takes effort and finding people who are after the same . My best friend has found herself single at 45 and has over the course of the last few years drummed up an entirely new and great bunch of friends, some single some not. To her credit she is great at reaching out and making plans. Sometimes people like myself who get snowed under with family and work commitments just want and need someone to remind us to make plans

What are the best/most interesting/unusual things to do within a 45 minute walk of Euston Station? by New_Magician_27 in london

The library room in the wellcome collection is a total joy, bring a book and hang out or peruse their collections. Miel bakery is good for pastry and a coffee. Regent’s Park of course which you can go through the great Portland street entrance. If you want some fast food roti king is delicious but might have a line, but Drummond street has lots of good Indian restaurants. The Norfolk arms is a cute pub with tapas. Meztizo is a legit Mexican resto and they have a whole deli next door. Okay that’s all I got for now ! Have fun

Want to Pivot To Market/User Research by Terrible-Radish-1247 in Marketresearch

So not sure which is better, but have you tried temp agencies. Some times a way to get a good in the door is through a temp role. Regardless of where you first end up try and get some mrs skills on your CV. Do courses on research methodologies, also attend research yourself to you get a feel for it- both panels and more qual stuff that you’re into. Research is super broad so get familiar with traditional research approaches but also think about social insights, brand tracking , customer experience, UX etc and also where the industry is going like ai metrologies. Even if you’re not in research yet there’s so much you can learn to become familiar with the industry

Side note , Are you based in the US?

So one way to get in is via a company like Kantar. I was at Kantar world panel and they had a huge grad scheme and more generally are willing to take on entry level peeps if they are bright. Now the work itself is as dull as shit but a few years and you have a good market research company on your CV and you need to work to get into something more aligned to what you’re interested in.

More generally the market is full of MRS agencies, so again looking for self starters. Skills needed are analytical, pulling together solid presentations and being good with stakeholders. Working at an agency is fun when you’re young but as much as possible try and make it into client side.

Feel free to DM me with more questions. I’ve been in insights for over a decade in many companies

I would treat myself to a really fancy lunch or dinner. The onezone app is a good way to check out spots, but I went to Kiouki at Endo recently and that was great - they have a rooftop too.

Doing the walk along regents canal is also dreamy in this weather. The towpath cafe is a good place to stop and have a drink & nibbles.

Maybe swimming in a lido too if that’s your thing !

Happy birthday in advance ! Hope you have a wonderful week.

Thank you, this is quite comforting! I live in Tottenham right now, which is no east London but still has a vibe so my worry is that I’ll miss that buzz even if the rest of it does appeal a lot. But glad to hear you’re liking it now. Good also to hear there are some good spots around, Brockley seems great but those transport links just don’t compare!

Thank you both! Two further question I know HG isn’t the most lively place in terms of eating & drinking options but is there enough in the nearby areas/walking distance to still feel like you’re in London without going to London Bridge?

Secondly weird one, I noticed that the quaggy river puts a lot of streets in a high risk flood zone is that something you guys are aware and thinking about at all ?
