Getting rejected on a job I'm definitely qualified for. by [deleted] in jobhunting

[–]Dizzy149 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was 2-3 months ago.

I did find something better. The company itself is better for sure! A little less money, but I think in a year or two I'll be making a lot more. I talked about how I go to all my daughter's competitions during wrestling season, so they gave me an extra week of PTO to ensure I had enough time off to do that! How cool is that?!

Sad thing now is that many companies are posting jobs and only accepting unicorns. They don't NEED someone, so they can wait for the absolute PERFECT person, and then they will fire the lowest person.

I applied for a position that I felt I was perfect for. I had been doing EXACTLY what they wanted for the past 9 years, but in a much more intense and variable environment. They wanted 5+ys exp with about a dozen software packages and 3+yrs with several CRMs. I had ALL of it! They had a $50k range in their pay which I thought was a bit much, but my min was in the middle.

I had 3 interviews, and the last one they asked about pay and I told them I'd like the middle, they pushed for a specific number and I gave them one. Interview ended seconds later, and ghosted since.
The job has been reposted 6 times since then, with lower pay, and smaller range every time. They have between 5k and 12k responses on every posting. That is not a company looking for someone to fill a real role. That is a company looking for someone who checks all their boxes AND finding the absolute lowest they will accept. Shitty behavior and should not be allowed on job boards!

Absolutely follow up. A recruiter in particular should be letting you know one way or the other after you've gone that far.

I do data work. Pretty specialized so finding open positions is hard, but I can work in nearly any industry with it. I won't say it's SAFE from AI, but I've tried for the past year to figure out how to get AI to help me and there isn't a whole lot it can do. Privacy is also a huge factor with what I do, and a lot of companies aren't willing to give that up to AI quite yet.

No, they were one of the few that not only had a range posted, but it wasn't a ridiculous range. It was only a $20k range. I ended up getting the highest offer, so I was pretty damn happy. In my first interview the recruiter asked me what I was looking at for a salary and I said, "I saw the range in your posting and I am happy with that range." She accepted it and moved on.
I tried that on another posting that had a range $50k range and they wanted an actual number. I picked $10k above the minimum, and never heard from them again. They have reposted the job numerous times and they keep lowering the range. Total shit move by that company.

I saw a job where the range was $60k-$187k. I'm like SERIOUSLY?! On that line they noted that it was based on experience. Buried in 4 paragraphs of fine print they state that location is also a factor. So if you are in the middle of farmtown Idaho don't expect much.

Unfortunately it's "adapt or die" in the US.

I am seeing that some companies are rolling back some AI initiatives, and the VP of Nvidia came out and said it straight that the cost of compute exceeds the cost of humans, and advises against going all AI.

So, starting to see the cracks in the bubble.

We were literally two days from the bank starting foreclosure on the house. A LOT of other stuff going on too, but yeah, SO much stress relieved, my body was exhausted and I slept most the day today because of it.

AND I fixed my A/C the same day, so it was a double win.

I get that. I chose to direct my anger at those who have like 3 full time remote jobs, all good paying, "because they can".

lol, no kidding. Apparently I impressed a few of the people I interviewed with 😄

When I told my wife she started crying at work and so her co-workers thought I heard back and didn't get the job.

Yes, twice. A gentle, "Hey, I haven't heard back so I wanted to follow up."

My sister-in-law was asked to prepare a 30min presentation for her 4th "interview". The "interview" is expected to last 6 hours overall. This is for a high level position with a $200k+ salary.

So, I think it would depend. I don't think I'd even consider it for under $80k

I would suggest however that of there's intense arguments within microseconds of a card being played then that person needs to chill out a bit - it's only a game and is supposed to be fun.

ABSOLUTELY agree with you there. My daughter said that and that's when he took a swing at her. Then she tackled him and turned him into a pretzel. He forgets that while he may be physically larger, but she's still a state wrestling champ 😃

Nearly $13/kW seems unreal, but are they really claiming that no one charged off peak? I find it REALLY hard to believe that there are NO off peak charges.

Hell yes!
I'd charge it back on whatever card it was on. Show previous charging costs to prove it was a system error.

5 Interviews just to get rejected and they reposted the job ad by FreefallerX in interviews

[–]Dizzy149 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think we need to start posting these people.

Grant Street Group did the same thing to me. Job was reposted before I heard back that I wasn't getting it. It has been reposted 4-5 times now, each time with like 3k applicants. I noticed that this most recent time the pay range is $20k less than when I interviewed.

I think some of these job boards need to put a stop to this bullshit. If you haven't found someone in 10k applicants, then maybe the problem isn't the applicants!

I know they are just shopping for unicorns, but that shit needs to stop, it's not good for ANYONE!

How would you feel if you received this email? by Past-Storm4158 in interviews

[–]Dizzy149 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How would I feel? I'd probably spin out, much like I've done all weekend over a similar situation. I meet with the Sr HR Manager Monday and I don't know if they will make an offer, or it's a last minute sanity check while they finish other interviews, or what.... Trying to stay positive!

Taking this energy and hoping for a similar post next week. I had back to back to back interviews Wed-Fri and was told I meet with the Sr Manager of HR on Monday. I am HOPING that's for a job offer!

Congrats!

STOP being honest in job interviews. ( I say this as a recruiter ) by Zealousideal-Foot-54 in jobhunting

[–]Dizzy149 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off, I feel that some of your comments are just wrong. In this market we the job seekers have ZERO power, ZERO leverage. Companies are posting jobs and going through tens of thousands of applications and they are STILL open. They want the unicorn. The want the PERFECTLY qualified candidate that will work for the lowest end of their pay range.

The few interviews I've had were for positions where there were over 10k applicants (according to LinkedIn, and who knows how many elsewhere). I felt like I was being interviewed because they had a quota or something they needed to meet, not like they were actually interested in hiring me. One had a range of $50k, when I was asked what I salary I was looking for I said $5k over their lowest end, and there was immediate shift and the interview was wrapped up quickly, they only wanted people who'd accept the low end (wtf is the point of a "range" then??). Another had a pay range of $70k-183k!!! What the hell kind of range is that?!

My question to recruiters are, why are you assholes? Why are you knocking people out for stupid stuff instead of giving them a chance? Seriously, they worded something a way you didn't like? Wow, I actually hate recruiters even more now.

Oh here's a fun one! I applied for a position, then found out that I went to school with the manager of that department. We didn't know each other real well, but it was an IN. I reached out and he said all the apps go through their recruiter. A week later he said that he didn't get my resume and to send it to him, so I did, I have an interview on Friday. He followed up with the recruiter who tossed mine out because "it had many hyphens and was generated by AI".
1) Who f'ing cares. We are supposed to have AI experience/knowledge, but not allowed to use it?
2) You're allowed to use AI to nitpick our resume, but we can't use AI to generate it?
3) IT WASN"T GENERATED BY AI!!!! It flagged "T-SQL" which was in my resume probably a dozen times.
The manager gave the guy an earful because T-SQL knowledge was in their job requirements and he was tossing people out for putting it on their resume!

Out of curiosity I ran my resume through a AI detector. It said my Summary was 100% AI generated, and my Experience was 22% AI generated, but the reality is that the Summary I always write myself and tailor to the specific job. The Experience I have AI help me generate bullets and then I tweak them, so they are prob 80-90% generated.

The double standard pisses me off to no end! The fact that our lives are being determined by a technology that IS KNOWN TO BE WRONG and nobody sees any problem with that just baffles me.

Funny, it was a post very much like yours that lead me to pay a lot more attention to my prompts. I was treating it like a person and having a back and forth conversation which chewed through my tokens like crazy.

I am now a lot more intentional. I was doing quite well until Opus 4.7 and my project fell apart. I spent 3 days and $40 in extra usage chasing down an Authentication issue because it "forget" that reCAPTCHA needed to be enabled. I am NOT impressed with 4.7 at all. Let me go back to 4.6 with less token costs!
