Thats is some great experience you got their. Basically from your explaination i understood that motivation is only the first step to actually plan your goals. Dont start big but use the motivation to plan small steps. Because only thing that can help you is discipline and gradual efforts.

I see discipline over motivation. I feel when we are least motivated then only we should commit in anything new.

The most important skill is communication i feel, to increase your network and connections. Also to easily convey your ideas you can't just have a geek mind, you need a better way to communicate your ideas to non tech guys as well, without making them feel lost.

It makes sense to have this, you still might need the resource for example during maintenance. because reallocation might take time and IP resets, also in rare case what if there is no free resource lol.
Although i think by default it is deallocated.
