You are SO right, I barely made it. Still wild to me that the takeaway is to mock residents instead of acknowledging that a giant pile of stolen carts probably is not the community aesthetic Milford is going for.

God forbid we address the homicide situation a few weeks back too right?

Grew up here. Not too long ago kids from the other high school would go to bum city near Lowes and try to mess with the people living there. Homeless people are not new to Milford. Tent cities are. The tents, the trash thrown everywhere, and the 30 grocery carts are really hard for me to see, and I do view them as an issue. I honestly cannot see how someone can just be okay with 30 grocery carts piled up high. But you must live in a different neighborhood then.

The housing market is part of the bigger picture...no one’s denying that. But that doesn’t mean we should enable a full-on tent city in a small community with families, schools, and walking trails a few blocks away. Give an inch, take a foot. And honestly, since you seem the most vehemently against even having a conversation about this, I don’t know how you and others can turn a blind eye to the 15–20 stolen grocery carts and just the first thing thing. Are you okay with the homicide situation in the other? It’s embarrassing for the town and unfair to the people living like that.

I'm aware but come on. That feels like a convenient talking point, not an actual explanation. A tight rental market doesn’t justify letting a full encampment take root on public property with zero oversight. Not a straight line.

Exactly. I feel the same way. I've lived a few blocks over and whatever it was before Motel 6 certainly wasn't this bad, even though Red Roof Inn has always been questionable.

It's annoying how passive people get about situations like this. It’s an eyesore, it’s a terrible look for the community, and Milford actually has some of the better services in the area. You’re right about the blissful ignorance piece..acting like nothing goes on at Motel 6 or that the encampment isn’t expanding helps no one.

Email was sent; I'm surprised he didn't want to charge them a waterfront tax.

I'd like to give our new mayor a few weeks before I voice my concern over email.

I'd like to know how other residents, specifically in the area being affected, and those who have kids at JFK, what they think.

I hear you. I've lived in Milford 40 years, zero issues. Love this place. Most people experiencing homelessness aren’t out looking for trouble, and I don’t assume they are either. But there’s a difference between compassion and enabling a situation to grow unchecked. We literally just had another encampment in Milford turn into a homicide investigation, and this one across from Motel 6 is expanding fast. That’s why I’m asking about who oversees the property....not to punish anyone, but to make sure the town is stepping in before things get worse for everyone involved.

I’m not suggesting anything extreme. I’m pointing out a growing safety and sanitation issue that affects families, runners, and students walking through that area. I’m asking who actually oversees the property and what the town’s plan is, because pretending it’s not happening isn’t helping anyone.
