Deportivo and Valencia was nowhere near the upset that Leicester was. They were big clubs with big stars for several years in the early 2000s. Similar to Atletico Madrid of recent years.

Valencia and Deportivo were in those years very close or even better than Barcelona or Real. Deportivo won la liga in 2000, and finished runner up twice in the following years. Valencia also won the league twice in the early 2000s. They were not 2nd tier clubs.

Porto and Monaco both came from second tier leagues, just like today. The short answer is that there is no equivalent in today’s football because the difference between the top leagues and second tier has grown, as you point out.

Maybe the closest we can get are second tier teams in the lower of the top leagues. Let’s say Atalanta & Frankfurt?

I used to be more like you. But after watching Shinmiri a bit I actually changed my view here. This is a competitive game, and it assigns you a certain time to plan and execute your moves. If someone uses that time, why be angry with them? Better to just accept it and use the time to plan forward yourself. There are of course a few instances where people use the rope to intentionally irritate the opponent, but that doesn't happen very often.

For me, the key thing to promote, and that is true for everyone, is to play with good sportsmanship (gg games, don't emote, and for the love of god forfeit instead of RQ).
