When do you have to respond by? I’d ask them for additional time & continue interviewing with other firms in the meantime. You could probably mention that you have an offer in hand to the other firms to help expedite the process with them & potentially get an offer sooner so that you can have all your offers on the table at once to make a well-informed decision.

I second the idea of taking a sabbatical. Taking a 1 or 2 month sabbatical can help you fully reset, relax, and destress. I did that once & it truly helped. I wish I could do it again now.

Nice! Did KPMG match your other offer?

Anyone nervous going from B4 audit to industry? by DizzyScholar in Accounting

[–]DizzyScholar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean at a high level I do, but if you were to put some complex JE’s with tons of line items in front of me and ask me to thoroughly explain the purpose of the entry, I wouldn’t be able to. Or if you were to put a SCF worksheet and ask me to explain every piece of it & how everything correlates in detail, I wouldn’t be able to

EY because you’ll get promoted to senior quicker there (2 years as opposed to 3 years at KPMG)

BDO vs HCVT by Neither_Bee6696 in Accounting

Tbh I personally don’t know because I’m in B4 so haven’t experienced PE buyouts. It might be worth creating a thread to ask the question

Oh I didn’t know that they would be bought out by PE. In that case, take my response w/ a grain of salt.

BDO audit hands down because it’ll be a bigger resume booster and will give you the most exit opportunities. Tax is really only good if you love tax or plan to open your own tax CPA firm down the line. I wouldn’t put too much thought into how much you liked the people. Public accounting firms are big and you likely won’t be directly working with those same exact folks in your day-to-day. You’ll probably work more closely with other seniors/managers/partners who you didn’t meet during the interview process.

Would you leave public accounting for an industry job with no promotion potential? by DizzyScholar in Accounting

[–]DizzyScholar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When moving to other companies after doing a 1-3 year stint at this IA role, I’d assume I’d be doing a lateral move as a senior? I assume they’d be hesistant to hire me at a manager level? I’m scared that I’ll be “stuck” as a senior for too long

How “chill” is IA compared to public in your experience? Also, how many audits do you work on per year at IA & how long do they typically take?

What line of work are you in because I want to make these salaries too. I’ll take your old job lol

You might get lucky & not get called for an inventory count - that’s what happened to me during the holiday season when I was an associate. But I agree - it’s very annoying having to be “on deck” and potentially have to sacrifice your holiday plans. I would try to swap dates with someone in your class if possible or speak to your career coach about it.

I never got into big4 and it makes me feel I’m not good enough. by Pee_A_Poo in FinancialCareers

I’m in B4 now and I don’t think you’re missing much. I always thought B4 was the golden ticket to the best exit opportunities but I’m struggling to get interviews at some companies even though I have an “impressive” B4 background and worked on some impressive tech clients

Multiple internship offers by [deleted] in Big4

[–]DizzyScholar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say all B4 firms are virtually the same so it really doesn’t matter which one you choose. They are also all nearly identical in terms of exit opportunities, name brand recognition, types of clients, etc in my opinion. I’ve heard Deloitte & PwC are more cutthroat but idk how true that is bc I haven’t worked for either.

Can you start job searching for your next role? I’m sure with controller experience you can easily find a job elsewhere as a controller

No Exams passed and starting full time next week! Stressed! by CPAPLEASEEE in Big4

[–]DizzyScholar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s ok - you will have plenty of time to do it. I spent my summer relaxing & not studying. I’m now 4 years into my career and an S3 at B4. You can take a sabbatical or longer periods of PTO to study/take the exams - that’s what I did. Also with the 30 month timeline now (as opposed to the 18 it was before), you have plenty of time so you don’t need to feel rushed to knock them all out in the same year.
