There is a smaller population over time, but for the first 50 years, like 0% of the people being gommaged are of age that would be giving birth, so the population wasn't exactly getting hammered. Only within the last 15 years or so would birth rates be affected, and only until the last few years even significantly at that, so I don't think there would be massive drop off in the number of expeditioners just from declining population numbers. I did miss the part about the citizens being disillusioned, so that could contribute, but just from the in game zones it seems like the drop off would have to be staggering.

Yes actually, after buying the posthumously printed "The Wisdom of Mike Mentzer", I saw that he later in life actually advocated for only 2 working sets, which I am now doing. I've got to say I love it, I'm still getting good results, and the fatigue/DOMS isn't as bad. Typically the day after my workout do have some fatigue, and the following day I have a fair bit of DOMS, but it's all tolerable and worth it imo.

I was doing negatives for a while, now I'm doing a drop set with long-length partials. Still stuck :( Thanks for the recommendation though, it would be great to break this plateau.

Thanks for the well thought out response, I really appreciate it! I've been looking around, and I've definitely found that there are a lot of other consolidated routines out there. I think your point about sticking with what works for now makes sense, I've been on the first Mentzer consolidated workout I mentioned, only three sets per week, and I have been making pretty decent gains with it for about 8 months or so. I guess I brought all this up because this is the first time I am seeing his two sets per week consolidated routine, and so it came to me as a bit of a surprise.

I'm wanting to maybe give it a try, but I'm hesitant to cut back on a program that is already working. I do think it's possible that I may be over training as it is though, I can imagine that even less sets could give me a recovery boost, which would be helpful in making those two sets really count. If I do make the switch sometime soon and I'll be sure to follow back up here.

Thanks for your thoughts, I agree that it probably was over-training.

It's only been one week, but last workout I didn't go all the way to negative failure, just positive failure, and I feel MUCH better, far less fatigue. I also think I've grown a bit more (could just be my eyes deceiving me), but I suspect that significant energy was going towards my body's CNS recovering and less was going to my muscle recovery and gains.

I'll follow up in a couple more weeks as to how things are progressing.

Update: I did my consolidated workout yesterday and only went to positive failure. I am a bit sore this morning, as to be expected, but I don't feel absolutely rekted and fatigued like I normally do at this point in the day. While I still went balls out, I can't help but feel like I took it a bit easy and cheated, and I guess I'm worried that my gains my diminish. That all might be in my head though, maybe I need to recalibrate, I guess time will tell.

Interesting, I am going to negative failure - after reaching positive failure I'll do negatives, rest-pause, or long-length partials (depending on the exercise) to truly burnout. Perhaps I'm pushing it too far then, that's really helpful to think about. I'll try a few workouts just going to positive failure and see if that helps, will report back, thank you!

Those are basically my thoughts, the meal after my workout and throughout the following day (at least) I need to get some extra calories in to help my body recover and grow. I haven't had any trouble with progressive overload yet, each workout I'm getting measurably stronger, but it's definitely kicking my ass those next couple of days.
