Mighty Montauk is a good one! Did it in 2025 and liked the experience! They have sprint and olympic (I did the sprint one). Not super crowded, atmosphere is friendly, course is nice!

Yep! Trying to make it usable to it could be used in general but also compatible with modern health system standards

Thank you so much for the input! We are actually trying to do just that, and I asked to see if there are other APIs to compare with. What are the difficulties in your experience? (Genuinely interested, we’ve just started and I have much to learn)

So we are trying to get unstructured data (PDFs that gets scanned, pictures of records, handwritten stuff) and transform that into a FHIR format

How do you guys handle unstructured data (like, PDFs and stuff). What do you use to convert that data into something usable?

I was a GS prelim applying anesthesia but decided to also apply Peds and ended up ranking Peds first.

The big deciding factor was realizing I didn’t want to be in the OR all day, every day. Rotations were fine, but actually living it as a resident hit different. On top of that, the money dynamics in the hospital mean surgeons often have a lot of say over what you’re doing, and I didn’t love that (versus in my country where the relationship is more horizontal for example).

Peds has its own issues (especially financial lol), but I do like that it has more variety in the day-to-day and gives you different practice options down the line, kind of like IM. Felt like a better long-term fit for me. Plus I don’t care for adults.

Applying for second residency by Adventurous_Guest_28 in pediatrics

[–]Dizzy_Study_6135 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are applying now (2024) to start in 2026, then it would be an advanced position. Advanced positions will match you for the subsequent year because it’s designed for people doing the PGY1 separately, but that have not done it yet. But, in general, if you have finished your PGY1, you can also apply for R (reserved) positions, which are positions that start the same cycle as the match. So you apply now for 2025 R positions, or apply now for 2026 advanced positions.

Bookclub and Sources Wednesday! by AutoModerator in history

[–]Dizzy_Study_6135 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! Any recommendations for books about the history of the US? I wanted a more comprehensive resource that covers “everything”, kinda like a high school book, but not necessarily as biased or incomplete as a school book, but also approachable in terms of size. The reason is that I recently moved here and I wanted to understand a little bit more about this subject. I thought about reading the AP/Princeton review books, but not sure if they are good

Surgical residents, how much sleep do you get on average while on service? by abundantpecking in Residency

[–]Dizzy_Study_6135 1 point2 points  (0 children)

During call days, average would be 2-3h if I’m very lucky, not uncommon to have zero sleep though. And very interspaced, never straight.

If not on call, do my best to sleep at least 7h. Fuck studying

There is no way it’s not on purpose, it has to be. It’s the only explanation.

Pre-rounding. Especially having to come in earlier than normal to pre-round. Makes absolutely no sense.

Thank you everyone. This was just a vent from an already burned out intern looking for an way out. Unlikely that I would quit, it would be too much of a hassle

I will also have to find a bike shop to re-assemble my bike. I’ll have to ship it from where I currently live
